“I like Last Christmas by Wham.”
I like that, too. Not my favorite, but “it has a good beat and it’s easy to dance to”.
I like “I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day”. It kind of means more knowing the story of Longfellow.

Lowell Mason wrote the music for "Joy to the World" in 1836. He also wrote the music for many other hymns, including
From Greenland's Icy Mountains (1823), a great gospel song that, sadly, is a bit too politically incorrect for today's mainline denominations.

I HATE Christmas songs!
Back when radio was a thing, all they seemed to play were xmas songs.
Rock around the clock, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman, etc., SPIT!
Only religious hymn type Christmas songs are tolerable.

My least favorite Christmas song is "Someday at Christmas"--
Someday at Christmas men won't be boys,
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys.

“I find the Christmas story compelling enough that I don’t think there is a need for made-up characters. “
I agree about the subject matter of the song. Mainly I like their singing together. Who’d think Bowie and Crosby would ever sing together?

What I don't like is beautiful Christmas songs paired with abused animals so nonprofits can collect more money. Someone has to tell these greedy groups to stop. This is NOT what we want to leave our children and grandchildren - memories of these songs illustrated with abused dogs shivering in the cold.

I agree.
That song actually enrages me.

"The Christmas shoes.
Ugh.
Christmas Shoes:
Song about a shoe store owned by a lady (resembles Nancy Pelosi) and her kid (resembles little Adam Schiff). Store is facing loan bankruptcy because she's overstocked an expensive woman's that's not been selling. She works out a scam with her kid to hawk the overstock to unsuspecting customers (resemble suckers).

It’s bad but Little Drummer Boy is worse because there are versions by multiple artists, and you will hate them all.

I have that song on my Christmas playlist but it wears you out after a few plays. I’ll listen to it a few times each season but skip it when possible. My favorite is Blue Christmas by Elvis.

Yeah, I know the origin... it’s just those two lyrics together that bother me. Maybe it shouldn’t... but I wouldn’t promise something I don’t have control to deliver on, and that’s where they went with the message.

Cannot stand "Holly Jolly Christmas." Even the Christian station around her plays it over and over from Thanksgiving to December 31.
Loooove Sting's winter-themed album, which contains many beautiful Christmas songs, beautifully done.
