You didn’t see Bird or Magic or MJ do this. One more reason why he’s not the GOAT.
I did see Bird one time. He was getting a VIP tour of the Vertical Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center. I said ‘Hey Larry!’. He waved.
They didn’t change the rules to favor Wilt Chamberlain, who was a far greater player than LeWhine. In fact, they changed them to make it less effective at scoring, defending or rebounding.
Under new rules, no zone defense, you can take 3 or 4 steps on the way to the basket, you can pick up the dribble, palm the ball, and charging is not called on Lewhine.
Basketball is more akin to tennis now, back and forth and back and forth. It is so exciting, that it bores me.
I don’t consider LeBron the G.O.A.T. either.
Those you mentioned their own issues and none lasted until 40
Byrd retired at 35 because of injuries.
Magic was 36 - he took off 4 seasons because of HIV
Jordon was 39 - he retired twice for a total of 4 years.
MJ “retired” to avoid getting busted for gambling. Meanwhile LeBron has been playing for 21 years. 17 of those his team made the playoffs, 9 of those playoff season involved more than 20 games. The guy has more miles on him than anybody.
And never will be.
