I did see Bird one time. He was getting a VIP tour of the Vertical Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center. I said ‘Hey Larry!’. He waved.

He must have liked the building because it was the first building he ever entered without having to duck.
I was on a Holland America cruise to Europe and I was apparently the only passenger that knew who Julius Erving was. He was alone and seemed to very much enjoy his private time. I said hello a few times at the breakfast buffet and left him alone.
