As President Trump is warmly received on the world stage, it's not hard to think that Joe Biden back home is jealously stewing and thinking up ways he can throw a few number-twos into Trump's punch bowl ahead of his taking office.
That's obvious enough in his response to President Trump's statement that the U.S. should stay out of Syria's civil war, particularly since the Russians and Iranians are on the run and will no longer be players.
Biden instead decided to escalate U.S. involvement upon hearing that, with airstrikes and approximately 900 U.S. troops on the ground. Biden normally hesitates in taking action of any kind, whether of securing the border, delivering aid to hurricane-ravaged North Carolina, or in offing bin Laden, but this time he decided to be decisive.
Trump stated that this wasn't our war and we shouldn't get involved. His statement makes sense because all sides in it -- from Iran-backed Assad's brutal torture regime, to the Marxist Kurdish rebels, to the ISIS and al-Qaida backwash that have taken Damascus -- are bad guys.
But Biden not only has launched airstrikes, he went on and on about nation-building in the hellhole regime.
According to CNN:
President Joe Biden on Sunday called the extraordinary fall of the Assad regime in Syria “a moment of risk” and “historic opportunity” while offering a blueprint for how the US plans to support the region.
Speaking at the White House in his first substantive comments since President Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in the face of an astonishingly swift rebel offensive, Biden also announced the US had conducted dozens of airstrikes in Syria as it remains committed to preventing the resurgence of ISIS.
“It’s a moment of historic opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria to build a better future

Our involvement should be limited to sending new pagers to everybody in Syria, and then send the phone numbers to Israel.
Why would anyone want a Nobel Peace Prize after Obama tarnished it and Gore made it a mockery? It is now a liberal joke. A bit like Time Magazines “Man of the Year”—This year its Kamala Harris so they say—anyone but Trump. The true measure of a man takes place after they have passed away—thats what the Ancient Greeks said.
Of course, locking in purchase contracts with War Inc. before they lose the opportunity.
It was completely predictable.
“Something doesn’t seem right in Syria. The collapse of the Assad regime seems staged. There was almost no resistance to the rebels in fortified cities that held our for years. It doesn’t make sense. Could it be a trap to bleed the West similar to Afghanistan?”
That is absolutely what it is. They held it in reserve for when it was needed when business was slowing down. They could have helped do this very same at any time in the past but did not. They let the field sit fallow until it was needed to seed and and plant a crop.
“Trump stated that this wasn’t our war and we shouldn’t get involved. His statement makes sense because all sides in it — from Iran-backed Assad’s brutal torture regime, to the Marxist Kurdish rebels, to the ISIS and al-Qaida backwash that have taken Damascus — are bad guys.”
But I’ve been told by a “reliable” source that all the mayhem I Syria is Israel’s Fault (TM)!
Isn’t that right, nitzy?
(Just watch!)
I don’t want 1 let alone 900 young Americans on another piece of foreign dirt in another undeclared war that will have no end.
If my grandkids get drafted I plan to show up instead and identify as an 18 year old male named Jay. I think all grandmas should consider this action.
You are correct we can’t ignore all of the players on the board. The Afghanistan withdrawal armed the Taliban.
Biden responds NUEHMJCFTU ensues.
Morale collapse is a real thing. There are many recent cases.
The fall of Mosul to ISIS in 2014 (and about half of the Shiite parts of northern Iraq) went down exactly the same way.
The ISIS offensives in Eastern Syria in 2014 in fact also went the same way, as did the attack on Palmyra in 2015.
It is “Israels fault” in a serious way. Israel won a great victory over Irans proxy Hezbollah. As it happened the Assad regime depended heavily on Hezbollah for semi-reliable troops. It seems that a lot of these Hezbollahis left as things werent going so well back home. Leaving few if any who wanted to die for Assad.
Morale is vastly important.
When did I say that?
I know that you think it is clever when you say something, get proven wrong, weasel/pivot to another point, get proven wrong again, accuse people of blood libel, weasel/pivot to another point, etc... but people who actually care about the truth are able to see through it and find it distasteful. I'm sure there are others who see that as a real valuable skill.
Show me where I said that "all the mayhem I Syria is Israel's fault".
Please quote where I said that I believe that.
Or you can kvetch about blood libels, that's always a good strategy too.
The IDF is doing the same. Blowing up stuff that the Syrian army had to make sure some crazy terrorist does not get a hold of them.
I quite agree, and have posted that point several times and ways, especially in response to nitzy’s argument that Israel caused it.
But he remains firmly convinced.
“That Israel caused it” by backing certain Syrian factions some 8 years ago.
Well, Israel did “cause” it, or perhaps kicked it off, as collateral damage from wrecking Hezbollah. I doubt they planned on this result though.
“ There was almost no resistance to the rebels in fortified cities that held our for years”
That’s how Arabs/muslims fight. Or surrender.
They are not like German soldiers in WWII battling an inevitable.
If it looks like they will eventually lose, they immediately cut and run.
O.K. I think I might understand your point now. Please let me know if I have it right...
There has been a Syrian civil war going on since 2011.
During that time, the US, Israel and several of their allies in the region have been giving aid to rebel groups, providing them medical aid, funding and training, taking out their enemies on the battle field, etc.... (you have provided no argument against any of this so I assume you concede these points)
But nobody really “caused” the resulting regime change. Or if somebody did “cause” it, it was other states and NOT Israel.
Netanyahu can claim that “This collapse is the direct result of our forceful action” and he is a good and honest person but Israel still didn’t cause it.
Because to claim that Israel had any role in causing it, is to say that they were ENTIRELY responsible for it and that everything bad in the world is the Jews fault. And this is of course a blood libel.
Do I have that right? Because that is a very logical argument.
Good job.
