The University of Southern California has reportedly spent $158 million more than what the university earned in its 2023-2024 fiscal year, amidst pre-existing financial troubles at the school.
The university placed some of the rising costs on inflation and said it plans to set initiatives to drive down the deficit, according to USC Annenberg Media.
The University’s Office of the Provost stated to Annenberg Media in a statement that the budget deficit over the past six years has ranged from anywhere between $586 million as a result of complications the University grappled with during the COVID-19 pandemic, to $36 million.
The university directly cited how inflation, costs of insurance, competition from other higher education institutions, declines in graduate school enrollment, athletic expenses, and growth of financial aid are all factors that could helps explain the deficit for the current year.
Administrators stated that they plan to invest in its students and employees at the university while planning ahead for potential future financial struggles that could further inhibit the its spending power.
In USC’s statement, the institution made mention of how “Eliminating this deficit is attainable over the next few years and is necessary to ensure USC’s long-term financial resiliency. By acting now and reviewing our financial structures, we can fulfill our obligations to current and future Trojans- so long as we all focus on our end goal.”
The University added in their statement to Annenberg Media that they are “[C]onfident that USC will continue to excel as we take the actions needed to build an even brighter and more sustainable future for our university.”
Boo hoo hoo…shut it down…worthless anyway…a factory for woke mind virus…🤬🤬🤬
“earned”? For producing......?
It’s not officially called “inflation”, USC. The proper term is “Bidenflation”.
You’d think a fancy university would know that.
Left Wing Ideologues....................
USC has an endowment of $7.463 billion dollars.

DEI = Cash Drain ,LOL
> USC has an endowment of $7.463 billion dollars. <
Shhh. You’re not supposed to bring that up. It might interfere with USC’s probable plan to raise tuition. They’re running a deficit, after all.
Don’t they professors of business administration, economics, and finance who can call the university president and Board of trustees that it is an unsustainable situation. If they didn’t sound a warning, what good are they.
I think they only spent $20 million on NIL.
University of Second Choice
University of Spoiled Children
So the UC Regents graduated from the Newsom School of Financial Management?
No critical thinking, no ability to add or substract, no comprehensive reading abilities... mix in a leftist political bias and you have the making of people who cannot administer an organization. When those in charge DIDN’T EAR IT, those who work there under them strave and lose their employment.
Yup—it will take decades for these leftist propaganda universities to bleed out....
But they will ultimately end up in the dustbin of history.
New technology will make the old bloated bureaucracies obsolete and new efficient institutions will replace them.
University of Stupid Communists..................
University: “rising costs on inflation”.
According to the “fact checkers” this claim is rated “false”.
Lol.
USC Costs for 2022-23:
USC tuition and fees in 2022-23 was $64,726,
with room and board being $17,436.
It’s one of the oldest universities in the state, arguably the second best private university behind Stanford. Ranks fairly high nationally, top 40 or so. It had traditionally leaned conservative as it was founded by Methodists, though it’s unaffiliated to any religion now. Hefty price tag to go there so I’d guess either they are giving too much financial aid, or have become bloated with student services bureaucracy.
“students services”
These universities are not salvageable at this point.
My husband got a master’s degree there through a program coordinated with aerospace companies for their employees. Far from worthless. It benefited his company for decades.
I know the most recent prior pastor for the Catholic student community on Campus.. so I get Facebook updates on their activities. These students are delightfully normal and happy. I couldn’t speak for the rest of the campus, except that the cheerleaders and the marching band seemed delightfully normal also.
I’ve also had to work on planning an event there, and found the staff to be wonderful.
I’ve also had dental work done at their school of dentistry. Absolutely top-notch people who treated me like a guest – no rush, no feeling of being a number in their system.
USC has their problems, but I think we continue to need them in Southern California. So I hope they’re able to turn around their circumstances.
