UnitedHealthcare Group chief makes bombshell claims about murdered CEO Brian Thompson in leaked video message to staff as he defends insurance industry
Daily Mail UK ^ | December 9, 2024 | Melissa Koenig

The CEO of the parent company that oversees UnitedHealthcare brazenly defended the insurer as a 'critical' part of the healthcare industry amid online support for the gunman who opened fire on the insurance company's CEO.

UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty addressed staff members in a two-minute forty six-second long video three days after the unidentified killer fatally shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, outside of a Manhattan hotel.

In the aftermath of the shooting, many expressed online outrage over the company's history of rejecting necessary treatment - especially under Thompson - as they praised the gunman for his actions.

But Witty touted Thompson as dedicated to the role of the company and shared how proud he was of 'what this company does on behalf of people in need across the country.'

He even claimed few people 'in the history of the US healthcare industry [have] had a biggest effect on American healthcare than Brian.'

Witty reassured staff members in his video, which was leaked to independent journalist Ken Klippenstein, that the insurer would continue to do as it has always done.

He said UnitedHealthcare - the largest health insurance company in the US - would keep putting 'patients, consumers and members' first in the company's 'journey to help everyone who needs it within the health environment.'

Witty argued that the insurance company's 'mission... is truly to make sure that we help the system improve by helping the experiences of individuals get better and better.'

I pay $185 for Part B Medicare and then another $22 for Part D. Both come out of my social security check. I really don’t know what the government kicks in.

Drago, thank you for the links! I am going to read them closer.

Well maybe he should have changed jobs that led him to do such evil acts towards People. Your comment is specious as that is the same excuse the Police used in Hitler’s Germany when they rounded up many people and sent them to the death camps! They claimed I was doing my job...

“There is no justification, especially biblical, for this act of barbarism.”

If you want to dig really deep on “Part C” payouts, here is the complicated “horses’ mouth” data from CMS/”The Government”:

https://www.cms.gov/medicare/payment/medicare-advantage-rates-statistics

The cost to Medicare for “regular” Part A&B people can range from $0. per year to hundreds of thousands per year if an enrollee gets cancer/stroke/heart attack....the average per enrollee per year cost to CMS/Medicare is around $15,500. That is why Medicare pushes “Advantage”/Part C....they only pay out about $14K per enrollee per year to private insurance cos. like UHC/AARP.

Question: is there anyone on this earth who has not lied, stolen even a pen or something insignificant, done something that caused hurt in some way to another?

Right we are all sinners and all fallen short BUT the greatest sin of all is the rejection of Christ’s Salvation....

People take Judging out of context as we are instructed not Judge fellow Christians as God will sort that out and guide fellow Christians back into the fold, not the Lost as how are we determine they are lost or not? We have to Judge their acts...and Witness to them. I have heard and seen this morning people saying well this was his job...Well the German Police under Hitler used that example when they rounded up various peoples and sent them to the Ovens...We were just doing our jobs... If he were a Christain then I question that as he worked to deny as many claims as he could get away with...that hurt many...

I’ll bet he thinks about it all night.

Many people use this verse in an attempt to silence their critics, interpreting Jesus’ meaning as “You don’t have the right to tell me I’m wrong.” Taken in isolation, Jesus’ command “Do not judge” does indeed seem to preclude all negative assessments. However, there is much more to the passage than those three words. The Bible’s command that we not judge others does not mean we cannot show discernment. Immediately after Jesus says, “Do not judge,” He says, “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs” (Matthew 7:6). A little later in the same sermon, He says, “Watch out for false prophets.By their fruit you will recognize them” (verses 15–16). How are we to discern who are the “dogs” and “pigs” and “false prophets” unless we have the ability to make a judgment call on doctrines and deeds? Jesus is giving us permission to tell right from wrong. So God allowed the death of this man as if he ignored repeatedly the call for Salvation as his heart may have been hardened then with everyone who rejects God then may have washed his hands of him.

Why hasn’t UnitedHealth Group (market cap $474 Billion) offered a reward for info leading to arrest/conviction of UHC CEO Thompson’s assassination? $50K FBI reward and $10K CrimeStoppers reward are rather paltry by today’s inflation standards.

I hope the NYC/D.C jury attitude has not infected the medical community to that extent. I am a provider, dislike UHC as most do, that doesn’t justify shooting someone in the back. Crooks would have been acquitted in D.C had things played out differently

“same excuse the Police used in Hitler’s Germany when they rounded up many people and sent them to the death camps! They claimed I was doing my job...”
Here we go with the Hitler equivalency to justify murder. You say my statement is specious without pointing out pointing any fallacy in it. Then you launch into a strawman argument about the Nazi Holocaust which I fall to see how you could even remotely relate these to events.

Their mission is to maximize the value of shares for shareholders.

Bribing federal and state politicians to get favorable regulatory treatment is the most critical task in that effort.

We have no proof he was murdered because of his job.

I still suspect the wife.

A local business publication here in CT looked at the largest lobbyists in the state capitol—measured by amounts of political donations.

Six of the top ten were related to the health care industry.

A friend of mine works for one. The sheer amounts of money spent boozing and schmoozing amongst the lobbyists, industry, and politicians at the Hartford Club and Max’s would curl the hair of a chinaman.

I am sorry if the facts are troublesome but in fact the German Police did say that after the war at the Nurenburg trials, we were doing our jobs...Fact is if you even a tiny amount of morals about you you would resign you position and go elsewhere. As his actions in denying claims not only hurt people some died due to you job and profit line...

In the state by state divide and conquer mechanism that is US insurance the only carrier available in my state for “group” type Medicare Part G is United. I don’t like it but there it is. I figure it will not be worth much but to maybe ease the death burden on my estate IF they honor the bulls Medicare does not pay when I kick off. I know it does not do much for my current bills as it pays almost nothing that Medicare does not pay. Most insurance is a scam until you need it in a major way. For day-to-day stuff don’t figure on it being worth anything. Consider it all for catastrophic coverage at best.

The "healthcare industry™" is becoming one of those terms like "Our Democracy™", used to misrepresent something as its opposite.

They are getting arrogant and sloppy.

When my grandfather bribed politicians to get state construction contracts they drove all the way out to a hot dog stand/shack in Colchester and did the deals there—he delivered suitcases full of cash.
