Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney delivers farewell remarks on the Senate floor. Romney, who served just one term in the Senate and chose not to seek reelection, reflects on his time in the legislative body and some of his accomplishments, including working across the aisle on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the Electoral Count Act, as well as his work on protecting religious freedoms. He says that while he may not miss the Senate, he will miss his colleagues and that he hopes to be a voice of unity after he leaves office.

Once upon a time in 2012, I evaluated 4,442 essays submitted by elementary-school students. I can’t divulge the prompt — that’s a trade secret protected by ferocious blood oaths. To loosely paraphrase, though, it was — “Which public figure do you respect most?”
As may be expected, 25-35% of the kids respected Barack or Michelle.
The number of Romney admirers was much easier to count. One (1). NOT 1%. Not even 42 of those kids could muster up any enthusiasm for Mitt.
At that point, I knew that the fight was fixed, the game was rigged, and the previously-selected candidate had already been chosen to win. And Mitt Romney had volunteered to serve as the chump, the patsy, the LOSER.
