I’ve driven PUs for 40 years. The average PU drivers now seems more like Bud Lite drinkers

Just stop completely re-engineering them EVERY year from tire size up. This also requires complete retooling of the factories every year to make them. It is stupid for both themselves and the consumer.

How else are all those engineers and marketing people and factory tooling people going to justify their ongoing employment? The day you say the product you create is perfect now is the day you get laid off.

Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.

Lots of info but this guy repeats himself over and over to make his video longer. Good info though.

I find this video interesting. In 2018 we bought a new F150. We shopped around and a couple dealers did their best to shame us for not buying the double cab version.

What’s more interesting is we did not like our F150 at all, the electronics were extremely annoying, to the point I’d cuss every time we got into the POS or one of the electronic features really got me PO’d. So it was decided to trade it in on a RAM. The value of the vehicle dropped $20,000 the first year. The trade in value was checked at a few dealers and they were all within about $500.

So yes, the first year depreciation is ridiculous.

That F150 will be our last new vehicle.

Actually Toyota was one of the only car companies to NOT go all in on electric, as their main bread and butter is the gas hybrids which DO make sense. Everyone else went all in on EVs and nobody wants them.

I have an old two-wheel drive SUV that cost less than 33% less than to the corresponding pickup. With the back seats down, and the front passenger seat all the way forward and a cargo carrier on the hitch I can haul 12-foot lumber with only a couple inches hanging off the back. The pickup version can’t do that. The only thing I can’t do is load dirt or rock in bulk, but I could rent a trailer to do that. Also, I have a secure cargo area without having to buy a camper shell.

Did I say it cost 33% less?

you can no longer buy a stripped down Sub $40K F150. Most of its trucks are in the 70K-80K range...
Trucks would suffer the same "safety" requirements as standard passenger autos, right? Sensors, cameras, warning bells, auto this & power that, emission, etc.

The days of little more than a sturdy frame, a strong engine and drive train and a radio are long gone due to gov't mandates.

Up until I was in my 20’s, if the whole family was going somewhere in the Truck, everyone but mom and dad rode in the back

“Might do as well on the highway if Texas had not raised the speed limit to 75”

A common misunderstanding among drivers.....it’s a speed “limit” not a speed “requirement”. Lol!

I have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, and have 27,000 miles on it. I bought it because I am single, and if I need to haul stuff, I don’t have a friend with a truck. I am the friend with a truck everybody calls. I will never again be without a truck.

I always thought Toyotas were the best built and lasted longer. The Taliban were driving 20-year-old models in Tora Bora, so I figured mine would last a lifetime.

I thought about trading up to a nicer one, but after reading this thread I think I’ll keep mine.

“if the whole family was going somewhere in the Truck, everyone but mom and dad rode in the back”

And miraculously we all lived.....and without the intervention of the nanny state either.....how about that. 🤷

“It’s the station wagon of the 21st century. 20th as well actually.”

Good, basic, point. I used to think all SUV’s were 4WD. Not many are.

Most cars sit really low, so they are difficult to get in unless you are really short. If you look at cars built in the late 30’s, they are like SUVs in seating position as well.

“How else are all those engineers and marketing people and factory tooling people going to justify their ongoing employment?”

They won’t too bad... Minimal loss of jobs in comparison to the bigger picture. It has already been done in history and the country survived it fine. In fact the economy as a whole did better because cars were more affordable. No one makes money if they sit on the lot and don’t sell. The thousands of assembly workers are sent home. Then on top of that the taxpayers will have to bail them out again.

The yearly cycle has to stop and 3-4 year runs with only a grill change like they used to do would be a huge start. And they were better made cars! We would not have even got into that stupid chip situation. No one was smart enough to figure out how to just use last years chips as soon as they saw a problem coming? That was the stupidest thing I ever saw... Let all those cars just go to waste because they didn’t want to redesign a computer board on the fly to use last years chips. Really?

They must think we are stupid, That was pure negligence with the full intentions of getting bailed out. Maybe we are if we fell for that scam...

The problem is Toyota went in with turbo four or six cylinders instead of sixes. I would rather have a basic four or six cylinder even though it would be a dog.

“I used to think all SUV’s were 4WD. Not many are.”

If you dive a little deeper you’ll find many are actually front wheel drive.......which is not a good design IMO.

Personally I have avoided FWD vehicles like the plague....to the point I steered my wife from a Japanese import to a German import primarily for that very reason.

No solar...won’t pay for itself if you think about it in a business sort of way. It never will...not even conventional back up generators powered by natural gas or propane or diesel.
However there is an intrinsic value to having such back up power when the mains have gone down and will be down for a while. And in some severe crises, the value of such back-up systems are priceless.

You are right. In my mind, only the truck-based versions are SUVs.
