A New York mother has been left outraged after her daughter was handcuffed to a chair at her middle school following a fight with another student.
Christine Henson, 46, went to go pick up her daughter Faith, 12, from IS 584 in the South Bronx on November 19.
But when she arrived at the school her daughter was nowhere to be found.
School officials allegedly walked Henson to a room inside the school on Saint Ann's Avenue when she made the horrifying discovery.
The frustrated mother told Daily News: 'My daughter was treated like a criminal. She was really violated. It doesn’t make sense.'
Faith was struggling and panicked while handcuffed to the chair with her arms behind her back, Henson said.
She told her mom she had been in handcuffs for three hours.
The mother recalled: 'I asked the school safety officer, "Why is she in handcuffs? Can you please take those off of her?" [The school safety agent] said "She’s not going anywhere.''
Henson claims she was not given any explanation as to how her daughter ended up in handcuffs. The school safety agent allegedly blocked her from standing near the sixth grader.
The agent reportedly told Henson that police needed to come to unlock the handcuffs.
But when six officer arrived, Henson said the agent was the one who had the key to free her daughter's hands.
A representative from the NYPD told DailyMail.com that she was handcuffed following a fight with another student and started to become 'increasingly agitated.'

She “lost her mind”. IOW she went off on a violent raging tantrum. The only way to stop them is to knock them out. We have one in the family. Her stepdad won’t hesitate to knock her the F out. It’s amazing how that tames them, at least around him.
A church I used to go to had a paddle hidden in the maintenance closet. Not many knew about it but we could always tell which kids did as they left fingernail marks in the wall going down the hallway to meet with the Board of Education.

Sorry, but step parents need to keep their mitts off the kids. Period. The ONLY people that can be allowed to use corporal means on the kids are natural parents, period. That step dad is going to get hotlined and then all hell will break loose and rightly so. I am a family law lawyer and that’s the way it is.

That’s absolutely appalling. Do all you “Freepers” realize you are advocating child abuse/assault? Criminal assault against children? What is the matter with you? There are LOTS of other ways to de-escalate, yes, they take time and resources, but assaulting someone littler than you is NOT the way, especially in a church. Good lord. How disgusting.
Spare the rod and spoil the child.
The entirety of the daughter’s behavior needs to be explained and understood. It is conceivable she needed to be reatrained.
However:
1. “School safety agents” should not have handcuffs unless they are LEOs.
2. If a child needs restraint, there had better be a LEO involved - with all of the child protections that entails.
3. Any child restrained in cuffs should immediately cause the parents to be notified (not 3 hours later).
4. Any “school safety agent” who prevents contact or closeness between a restrained child and their parent(s) should be immediately arrested for kidnapping.
I could probably make at least fifty entries into this list, but the bottom line is that the “school safety agent”, the principal, and the teachers all need to be facing charges.
The girl’s behavior may require consequences, but faux arrest cannot be a legally allowed consequence.
That’s a lie. I know many children who were never beaten or spanked. It is a reflection of your being able to be a decent parent.
The shepherd doesn’t beat the sheep, he uses the rod to guide them so they are on the correct path. Parents need to give information and guidance, have patience, set an example.
Let’s say she did fight and mouth off. Is the school allowed to simulate an arrest, NOT notify the parent, and keep her chained up for hours?
I’m not excusing her behavior, but the school is way, way out of line.
No. You’re buying into the failed “time out” garbage.
The judicious use of pain when necessary works wonders. It’s very rarely necessary. The vast majority of the time the mere threat is enough to get the child in line.
Visualizing the threat, with the “Board” works every time.
“The shepherd doesn’t beat the sheep”
You’ve never been a shepherd! I’ve been around a flock of 2,000 sheep that needed moving, and the “rod” wasn’t gently guiding them. If the sheep responded to gentle, they got gentle. If not, they got whatever it took.
No, I am not. Attention is what works. You are sick if you want to inflict pain on someone who is smaller than you and defenseless. Time out only works if it is accompanied by someone when the child is overwhelmed—you both go somewhere quiet and calm down, don’t talk mean, just talk, slowly, nicely.
Yes, all this takes time. But it works.
I repeat, the shepherd doesn’t beat the sheep. He may push them.
The child who threw the tantrum and said she didn’t know why they restrained her is the one who said she was held for 3 hours. The guard, at least, said 15 minutes. Given she was acting out, I’d guess closer to the guard’s time estimate.
