Did the statue just fall or was the boy climbing on it? My guess is the latter.

Hoo boy can I get in trouble here. Having been a boy once, and having 3 brothers within two and three years of my own age, let me tell you, I have some stories. My father was military and my mother was mentally ill and I have no idea how she managed to drag six kids around the world through airports and bus stations. We gave her a run for her money. Once while passing through New York which was before Kennedy airport I and 1 of my brothers went under the edge of all of the stalls on both sides of the women’s restroom and locked them all from the inside. So in spite of not having any details on this accident, I simply wonder if the child somehow contributed to it.

I knew a guy who flew to Canada to take his dream fishing trip. As soon as he got there he stood by the edge of the lake admiring the view and a huge tree branch fell on him.

Sometimes you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Pushed the bottom, it fell back on him. I read about a kid who pushed on the pole of a rusted rail road sign which broke off halfway up ,came down and struck him. Same thing nearly happened to me, pushing on a dead tree ; I pushed the tree over .but the rotted out top half decide not to go along and came down like it traveling down an elevator shaft.

Was it a Weeping Angel statue? I wouldn’t put anything past one of those.

Those things look like they have a very high CG. If it wasn’t anchored it wouldn’t be hard to tip over.

That reminds me of an incident from maybe 15 years ago.
A family of three were having dinner in a restaurant.
This was the type of high floor restaurant which slowly rotated in a circle, letting the customers enjoy the skyline.
The son of this family was about six or seven. Somehow, he wandered from the table and got his little body wedged between the floor and the rotating wall.
He didn’t survive. Parents sued. Many of the public blamed his parents for not paying attention to their son.
Reports spoke of them both looking at their phones during most of the meal.

I worked on the Biltmore for 1 year with a stud, drywall, stucco contractor.

Superintendent.

The cost of those statues negated a mortar joint to the plinth base.

No mortar joint, falls easy with a climbers help.

Camera are everywhere!!!!

The replicas were given to the Arizona Biltmore in 1980s

So the statues have been standing there for only 40-some years?

It appears that the Statue wasn’t secured to the base, I think they figured the weight would prevent it falling over. I was surprised how far the Statue was from the base I think the kid was fooling with it.
