Konstantin Malofeyev, a Russian tycoon who is subject to western sanctions, told the Financial Times that President Vladimir Putin was likely to reject a peace plan proposal by Trump’s recently nominated special envoy for the conflict, Keith Kellogg.

“Kellogg comes to Moscow with his plan, we take it and then tell him to screw himself, because we don’t like any of it. That’d be the whole negotiation,” Malofeyev said in an interview at a luxury resort in Dubai.

Yes, that is an option. Trump could just say, we wash our hands of it, and you two can continue to kill each other, but we have nothing at all to do with it.

D-uh. It’s a negotiation. The first offer never gets accepted.

Naturally—Even Trump expects this—its called the art of the deal. Those were just starting points for talks. same with Zelensky’s so called peace deal. The peace talks will be fun.

Not my war, either. But someone has to wear the big boy pants or we’ll be in the middle of WWIII. Yeah, yeah, we are but the bad is looming.

A big fat duuuuh regarding carved in stone steps to negotiation.

I thought the first offer was a ridiculous ask, so that the desired offer seems like a good deal later.

Stopping the killing and loss of territory is what is best for Ukrainians.

That is true, but Ukraine and Russia are not discussing that. The current Ukrainian path leads to negotiations at the Ukrainian equivalent of Appomattox courthouse. The longer it goes on, the more territory they lose, and the greater the Russian manpower advantage becomes. Much of the territory with valuable mineral rights is already in Russian control.

Russia is not going to negotiate with Zelensky as Russia does not consider Zelensky a lawful head of state. A subsequent Ukraine government could always hold that Zelensky lacked lawful authority to bind the nation of Ukraine to any agreement. Also, Ukrainian law prohibits Zelensky from negotiating with Russia while Russia occupies any part of what Ukraine claims to be its territory.

No negotiated settlement will include NATO forces in Ukraine, or NATO membership for Ukraine. Such "offers" overlook the red line set by Russia for decades, and will only result in the continuation of "diplomacy" by military means.

What makes anyone think his opening offer will be bona fide?

Are you this stupid? It’s the basic rule of any deal, never take the first offer. I guess the people in Ukraine don’t know the rule.

“It appears the Ukie war is inching towards the “ battlefield realities”, instead of negotiations.”

After how many years it is inching towards battlefield realities.?

Trump is going into this brokering a peace . using a big stick and a carrot.

Ask yourself, “ What is the big stick?”

“What is the carrot?”

Russian tycoons know only one kind of negotiation: Force Majeur.

Konstantin Malofeyev, the supposedly great Russian pseudo philanthropist, is making too much money off of children from the invasion of Ukraine, and he does not want it to end.....which means he will soon be silent or else dead if he does not shut up.

He now has both Trump and Putin gunning for him.

You mean that red line of no borders with NATO? Why didn't they invade Finland last year also?!
