Diamonds are a very poor investment. The dealers are the only ones making money. My MIL has a diamond ring (which she didn’t want in the first place) and when her husband died, the shop where he bought it (very well known here) says they don’t buy diamonds only sell them. Pawn shops are not known for being fair.
The wife got a lab diamond for her birthday this year......I’m so impressed I don’t ever see purchasing a traditionally mined diamond ever again......not to mention the price is WAY less.

Diamonds and really jewelry in general is something you should buy only if you want to enjoy it.....and know up front the idea of resale shouldn’t be a consideration.

If there was a solid gold asteroid out there somewhere, millions of tons, it would not be worth bring it to Earth because it would crater the economy. Gold, diamonds or any valuable mineral found in abundance would then be cheap. There’s enough methane on Titan to supply Earth’s energy needs for several thousand years........

Yes, they used to buy up all excess diamonds, especially from USSR/Russia when they would dump a ton of them on the market, in need of Western cash.
Debeers was hoarding them to keep the prices high, but technology has finally overtaken their ability to do that..................
