Michigan is home to over 11,000 inland lakes, not to mention its iconic border with four of the Great Lakes. This makes it one of the most scenic states in the U.S., and such an environment is particularly conducive to relaxation and wellness. Numerous small towns capitalize on this serene backdrop by offering spas, quiet community atmospheres, and stunning natural vistas.

My family spent many vacations in the Glen Arbor area before it became an expensive tourist trap. Beautiful area. Frankenmuth is fun, especially Bronner’s
Can’t believe Detroit didn’t make the list.
Something far south of there for me.
So traverse city didn’t make the cut? Saugatuck is a queer paradise in the west side of the state. Some other good areas are Holland on the western side and Port Austin in the thumb. It’s been 20 years since I lived there and don’t miss it at all.
We used to stop at Tony’s before heading to the outlets by Frankenmuth. A side of bacon, 1 pound, was enough for the entire family.
Their bacon! Yum! All their food was good. We have not been there in awhile.
Not much in *Hell, but it is a beautiful drive from the south. (Monroe County)
*miniature golf, a gift shop, a restaurant. Sort of cheesy, but fun.
Grand haven is is a nice town it does get busy in the summer and the coast guard festival is fun. I do like the beaches and food. Pronto pups are great but get there early. It does have a nice CG shopette across from the station if you need travel stuff and alcohol.
And the road to Hell is paved….literally. I can attest to that.
My daughter was born in Grand Rapids, MI. I worked for the Repub party there, calling people to contribute $$$. So successful at that, the state finance chairman asked me to move to the capitol city and work for the party on a paid basis. Didn’t do it.
Grand Rapids was a lovely small city then. No clue how great/horrible the place is now.
The menu says you get a pound because their cooks are too stupid to count to three.
Never been to the midwest, but I’m intrigued by the videos I’ve seen of vehicle-less Mackinack island?
How could you neglect to mention the Tip a Few Tavern and the Dew Drop Inn for breakfast? And if you’ve never stayed at Kardomah Lodge you’ve missed an experience of a lifetime! Grand Haven will always have a place in my heart!
The TC road net has s*cked for decades.
Pricey, but worth doing once. Lot of history, too.
