An art teacher at Bryant Middle School in southern Merced County, died last week of rabies.
It's presumed Leah Seneng got rabies from a bat that had entered her classroom.
Seneng told a friend that she noticed the bat in her classroom around mid-October.
According to the California Department of Public Health, one of the most common sources of rabies in humans is from bats.
The CDPH is warning the public not to handle bats, as bites often go unnoticed.
They also warn you to wash the affected areas if you touch a bat and to seek emergency care if bitten.
I was bitten by a bat. The trouble is that the little teeth are so fine you may not feel the bite. Mine felt like a little prickle and hardly left a mark, and considering the circumstances it’s incredibly lucky I even knew I’d been bitten. Of course I had to have shots. I’m grateful for them.
What I find ironic about this story is the dead woman instructed children.
There was a time in this country, when teachers were knowledgeable and had common sense.
Not only do we need a “spiritual revival” in this country but it looks like we’re going to have to re-invent the wheel as well.
I’m old but I’m shocked at the low I.Q. of the people of this nation!
