An art teacher at Bryant Middle School in southern Merced County, died last week of rabies.
It's presumed Leah Seneng got rabies from a bat that had entered her classroom.
Seneng told a friend that she noticed the bat in her classroom around mid-October.
According to the California Department of Public Health, one of the most common sources of rabies in humans is from bats.
The CDPH is warning the public not to handle bats, as bites often go unnoticed.
They also warn you to wash the affected areas if you touch a bat and to seek emergency care if bitten.
What do you mean? Are you saying she did not get the standard childhood vaccine?
“Teacher. May I go to the batroom?”
More than a fair share, I’d say.
She was apparently bitten and didn't get the vaccine before the onset of symptoms. Rabies is almost always fatal if you don't get the shots after being bitten and before the onset of symptoms.
Yep, my uncle had to get those when he was a kid. He’d been bitten by a dog who got away and I guess they did that as a precaution back then. This was in the 40s.
I see.
There is no "standard childhood vaccine" against rabies.
In other words, whole schools full of children were never vaccinated against rabies as a precaution.
Rather, treatment against rabies is administered only in the case of a concrete suspicion of infection.
You are perhaps confusing that with polio vaccinations, tetanus vaccinations, etc.
Regards,
There is no standard childhood vaccine for rabies.
On my honeymoon in 1970 we rented a cabin in Maine. A bat got into the bedroom, and I trapped it in a trash can while me husband hid under the covers. That would be my EX-husband.
LOL!
The high school I work in in SC had a bat infestation last spring. We had to close and go to “e-learning/distance learning” for a week while exterminators and our local SC Department of Natural Resources got rid of them.
Ha ha! Was that taken after Trump demolished Kamala? I love it! They were so right, Kamala DOES bring joy! I’ve felt nothing but joy since she got her ass kicked lol lol lol
Yes, that popped up on Twitter/X a day or two after the election.
At least one poster over there is using it as his/her profile picture.
Yup! If you see any nighttime critter hangin’ out in daylight; there’s a good chance it’s rabid (bats, foxes, skunks etc).
Not sure when the shoulder injections became the norm. My daughter received one such before they were able to recover the raccoon that bit her, take the head, freeze the brain, and examine it, with a negative result, for rabies.
What would be icing on the cake is if Pam Bondi starts an investigation into Pelosi, insider trading, violations of the Obama signed Stock act of 2012, fine her some ridiculous fine like the kind they put on Trump, half a billion bwa ha ha ha
Typically, they test the animal and if positive, you get the shots. If the animal can’t be found, you get the shots. Or roll the dice.
I did. That time around.
