A clip from Billy Bob Thornton’s new show "Landman" went viral on X for slamming the use of renewable energy like wind turbines, that are intended to combat the effects of climate change.
"They use clean energy to power the oil wells?" Kayla Wallace’s character said in the scene of the show.
"They use alternative energy. There is nothing clean about this," Billy Bob Thornton’s character said.
"Please, Mr. Oilman, tell me how the wind is bad for the environment?" Kayla Wallace replied.
Thornton’s "Tommy Norris" responded, "You have any idea how much diesel will have to burn to mix that much concrete or make that steel and haul this s–t out here and put it together with a 450-foot crane? You want to guess how much oil it takes to lubricate that f---ing thing? Or winterize it? In its 20-year lifespan, it won’t offset the carbon footprint of making it. And don’t get me started on solar panels and the lithium in your tesla battery."
"Landman," a rural America drama created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, details the life of the billionaire Norris family as they interact with power players in the oil rig industry in West Texas.
Sheridan, the creator of the hit TV series "Yellowstone," announced he had plans for "Landman" back in 2022. The show is based off the podcast Boomtown, a documentary series about oil rigs in west Texas and the wealthy people that own them.
"If Exxon thought them f---ing things right there were the future, they would be put all over the g--damn place," Thornton's "Tommy Norris" added.
The scene sparked a debate on X, which saw users praising and criticizing the clip.
"Taylor Sheridan’s new show ‘Landman’ hits Billy Bob Thornton with an epic monologue..."

I don't know if I even saw that episode. I may have started binge watching with episode 2
A car isn’t producing energy and has no claims to being energy positive while sucking down taxpayer dollars.
they are, quite literally, a waste of energy.
Love Billy Bob and his speech was amazing.
My son after Maries (Iraqi Freedom) got a job with Transocean. He was originally in Louisianna for a while off shore but got moved to Seattle rig. Protestors in kayaks surrounded the rig. He laughed and said do they even realize those kayaks were made with petroleum?
Love it! To much real life for some people. If you have spent time in Midland it is like a documentary. Sheridan is a “neighbor” here in Weatherford. Not that have ever met him. On my bucket list to shake his hand.
They are if the blade comes apart and fiberglass gets on the crops.
I suppose that if the blade came apart and one of the atoms were to split in the process, it could cause a nuclear chain reaction that would wipe out entire cities. I like to discuss things that could actually happen.
An entire wind generator blade on the ground would occupy about .05 acres. The entire blade won’t fall on crops because the base of each wind generator has an area cleared of foliage, so you can expect about 1/4 of the blade to land there, leaving only .0375 acres impacted by the blade. Further, crops are planted in rows, so only a negligible portion of the crop would be impacted. Depending on the time of the failure, the crop may not be impacted at all.
I have never seen a field cleared because of a wind generator failure. Have you? Have you ever seen a wind generator failure in a field of crops?
There are plenty of legitimate arguments against wind farms without introducing misinformation. Misinformation only harms the legitimate arguments.
This took me ten seconds to find.
Twisting in the wind: It can take months to clean up turbines damaged in storms
Fiberglass strewn all over a cornfield resulting in all of the topsoil needing to be removed.
Maybe if you’d spent the 60 seconds to read the article (probably more for you), you would understand that the pieces were picked up over time. Yes, contractors are slow, but it didn’t ruin any crops. If you knew anything about farming and farmers, you would know that the farmers are gold digging. There was no impact to their farmland outside the immediate area of the failures. I have been down this road before and I know whereof I speak. Do you really think that a couple of pieces of ashen fiberglass impacted their yield? The only thing that impacted their crops was their insistence that the wind farm remove every single piece of the damaged wind generators.
Again, have YOU ever seen a field cleared because of a wind generator failure?
Have YOU ever seen a wind generator failure in a field of crops?
Bro, just take the ‘L’ and move on.
Dude, just answer my questions and move the discussion along.
I’ve got windmills on my ranch. Get a 1/8 gross proceeds lease. The cattle don’t mind. Nice flow of about 8 hundred K a year.
But I have no illusions it will last. They do not pay in producing quantities. That is, the cost of operation exceeds the money made by selling electricity.
And this does not take into account the cost to build them.
My lawyer wisely demanded a bond to remove them and their foundation six feet below plow depth for when the time comes and the government money dries up.
Lloyds of London and JP Morgan will be paying to haul this garbage away when it happens.
Paramount+ on Wednesday announced that Landman, the Taylor Sheridan saga’s sophomore run will kick off Sunday, Nov. 16 — just 11 months after its Season 1 finale was released on the service.
