A new ballistic missile fired by Russia at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro last week carried multiple warheads but no explosives, and caused limited damage, two senior Ukrainian government sources said.
-snip-
One of the sources said the missile was carrying dummy warheads and described the damage caused as "quite small".
The second source said: "In this case, (the missile) was without explosives...There were no types of explosions like we expected. There was something, but it was not huge."
-snip-
U.S. officials have said Russia probably possesses only a handful of these missiles, which Western experts say appears to have been derived from the RS-26 intermediate-range ballistic missile.
Leaving out the explosives in a "reentry vehicle" - the heat-shielded part of the missile that carries the warhead - leaves room for instrumentation, which countries testing missile designs can use to measure performance, experts say.
It is not publicly known whether the Russian warheads carried such gear.
The RS-26 has a reported range of more than 5,000 km (3100 miles) although the missile that struck Ukraine from the Russian region of Astrakhan region flew only about 700 km.

Everyone knows that...It’s a missile with multiple warheads.
“It’s about sending a message.”
Uhhh...I haven’t actually seen them myself - but then again, I haven’t seen a lot of things that exist - but I have it on good authority that we have had Rods from God in the works since the late 1980’s.
As I was sceptical, it was pointed out to me the considerable number of KSC launches whose missions are not released to the public. It was then pointed out that we launch from the west coast as well and that MANY of those launches are of classified payloads.
It was shared that the 20’ long, 1’ diameter rods are rare. We have more that are considerably smaller, but are still capable of impressive damage.
Remember the “accident” not so long ago to Iran’s nuclear facility that was in a mountain? Nice round hole in mountain, little evidence of conventional or nuclear munitions...I wonder how it happened?
Andddd. . . with that idiotic ejaculation we can now confirm that FR's resident Zeeper Village Idiot™ is online and spamming FR with giant slabs of Youkropium!
These are IRBM’s, not Rods from God.
Whatever happened to that 2nd ICBM that Putin launched?

Funny how you don’t want to talk about what happened to the 2nd ICBM that Putin launched.
What happened to the 2nd ICBM? Where did it land?
The Russkies didn’t have time to put explosives in the warheads. Putler needed to immediately. respond to the Ukies’ kabooming of his airbase in Kurskaya oblast with ATACMS, including an S-400, with an experimental missile. Experimental, for the Putlerists reading this, means it is one of very, very few at Putler’s disposal. Putler himself was raving about how Russia has a massive stockpile of these. That is a bluff. Putler is almost out of Schlitz and he knows that using nukes will end up in the complete devastation of his would-be empire.
Let's say I shoot at you with a sniper rifle.
The first round misses, the second takes your skull apart.
Do you really care where that first round hit?
How does this system kill an aircraft carrier? It needs to be extremely precise to do that (a near miss likely won’t do anything to surface vehicles, hitting water isn’t like hitting land..), on top of having the targeting data to find the carrier first. How do the Russkies even know where to launch their “unstoppable” missile in the first place?
How is Russia getting this into these US? We have plenty of defenses, they aren’t just freely hitting otywhere they want in the mainland. Mayyybe some in Europe, Mayybe Alaskan islands. Not much else.
If you read the reports, it is extremely accurate. A single projectile the size of a coconut at Mach 11 would destroy an entire aircraft carrier.
Maybe it misses but easy enough to launch another dozen.
There’s no defense in the world that can stop a mach 11 projectile.

The FR Resident Zeeper Village Idiot™ and premier Youke fantasist strikes again! - and again, and again.
“US air defense is better than the Russians”
Sorry, but it’s simply NOT POSSIBLE to have PURE ROT at the top of the military and then expect things to work at the bottom. The Democrats have been in power for most of the post-Cold War and they are the same people who DESPISED our military for DECADES, before they started enjoying the bombing of civilians Yugoslavia.
A rod from god is a tungsten telephone pole in orbit. Nobody has figured out terminal guidence for that yet.
