2024 Atlantic hurricane season among costliest on record with whopping $200 billion in losses

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season was marked by an unusual pattern of storm development, but despite the damage, season activity was below what forecasters believed would occur.

Between June 1 and the end of November, 18 named storms formed across the basin, with 11 becoming hurricanes and five strengthening into major cyclones. Eight hurricanes made landfall; five of which struck the U.S.

The numbers were above the averages of 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major storms that form during a typical season.

The first named storm, Tropical Storm Alberto, didn’t form until June 19 — marking the slowest start to the hurricane season in a decade. However, a period from mid-September through October helped to make up for the shortfall.

During the peak of the season, 10 named storms formed, three of which made landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast as hurricanes.

Yep, hurricane Milton ripped many shingles off my roof. Costing $50k to get a metal roof put on.

More people, more houses, more infrastructure, places more property destroyed or damaged in the path of the hurricanes equates to more money. Simple math, not climate change.

I’m blaming white people for this.

Constant dollars or inflated dollars?

Reflective of increased building in coastal areas?

Or is it mostly from Helene, a worst of the decade kind of storm?

Yeah, i kept looking for where they said they adjusted for inflation. If not, then Biden-Harris made the hurricanes 20% stronger.

What is 200 billion in pre-Biden dollars? How many people moved out of leftist hellholes and took up residence in FL, GA, etc?

Mild season overall, but hit some high-priced real estate.

A $ billion isn't what it used to be.

More people living in Hurricane prone states. More people means more human infrastructure, means more damages, means more costs. THAT is the biggest factor.

It would probably be more if everyone hid their Trump signs.

critical thinkers might ask if, over time, every new hurricane season will necessarily strike more developed land and built up coasts; and the dollar cost impacts will have to increase, regardless of the actual relative weather differences.

just sayin….
