No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
The smell of burning polystyrene has subsided noticeably... It really didn’t smell much like wood smoke.
Weird… but at least it stopped….
He probably just ate a bug.
Good morning, all. Happy Hump Day!
Morning cuddles look like a good idea.
It’s still chilly here, but the rain in the official guesses keeps getting moved back. It will probably rain on Saturday as I’m driving out. Can it really be almost Labor Day???!!!
Not much happening here. I had one of THOSE Wordles today. Although most of the guesses I came up with were words that hadn’t won before. So I didn’t spend a lot of time trying to think up different words.

I can’t believe that Labor Day Weekend is upon us...
Good Midweek Morning!
There are guesses for some rain over the weekend here as well... we shall see...
I don’t feel as bad, only made one poor choice on the way...

Uff-duh... Having a bit of a “long ride” hangover today. Woke up stiff. Did five and a half hours in the saddle yesterday to ride Abby to a client site... Much longer trip than I had anticipated. Legs and back are complaining...
Nice ride though. Looks like today is going to be gorgeous, weather wise, again...

Hopefully the kinks will work themselves out as you move about...
I’m an engineer, working from my home office, I’m wearing a t-shirt and shorts... What is this “move” concept you speak of?
🤣
Ahh, I thought that you were heading out to a site again... well, I assume that you will have to get up to get some coffee...
Nope. I rode 400 miles yesterday to swap a UPS system for a bank... Hardware was delivered to the client site. Swapping was easy. Most of the time on site was gracefully shutting down their servers and network, and then ensuring everything was working when I brought it all back up again.
I’ve done quite a few of these in the last couple of decades.
I have my 32oz mug of Folgers mostly consumed already. :-)
Obviously you need to schedule more long rides so you can handle them better.
I used Wellness benefits from my insurance company to by an ergotron convertable desktop. So I can switch from sitting to standing. I sometimes do things like knee bends when in standing mode.
It helps a great deal.
Obviously... Although, these are much more fun in the warmer Months than they are when there’s 3’ of snow on the ground and ice on the roads...
Technically speaking, anything over 100 miles road distance we are supposed to rent a car and expense it. I should ask our finance folks if they’d pitch in for tires on the bike... I already have a new rear tire to put on it, but it’d be nice to have spares.
I’ve had one of those before... I don’t like them. I know people that love theirs though... so... To each their own I guess.
Until we finally get really useful wearables this will have to do.
By “really useful” I mean those that create an image of a screen as large as mine is hovering in front of me. I should just be able to wiggle my fingers to type. The virtual screen should just know what I’m looking at without any mouse or pointing. And, of course, sound and microphone automatically enabled when appropriate.
