No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good Midweek Morning!
Supposed to see less sun today and a slight chance of some late day showers...
Today was a day for the ‘second starter!’

We lost Mel in 2022 when he was 11. He had diabetes. I miss him so much, and cry often for him and the others waiting at Rainbow Bridge.
It's been painful posting the pics this week, going through all our kitty pics.
I can imagine... sometimes my phone gives me an alert for "pet memories" that it has collected from my photos... sometimes they are sad memories...
Not even at that point yet... might be a year or two... But thanks for the idea... :-)
T-storms on tap for today... Raining from here to Friday. Put a new handlebar bag on Abby and cleaned her up a bit last night. Did some work on the Cadillac... It’s developed a air leak somewhere that throws an engine code every now and then...
As a side note... the mosquitos up here finally hatched... and with a vengence.

All this car talk has Beach Boys and Jan and Dean tunes running through my head.
Mosquitos... we’ve been plagued by them for weeks... some weird ones that the bites last for 10+ days.... Growl.
These aren’t the kind I remember that had saddles and bridles, right?
Some do!
We’ve been blessed this season... normally, they are the out being a PITA right after the snow melts...
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
Thanks for doing the kitteh pics this week, MM.
Our heat spell broke. It was a pleasant 68 fs when I walked The Princess this morning. She had also been groomed so she was very happy.
I have to take some independent living stuff over to a group in the area that helps people with this kind of equipment. They let us use some things for free. These are the things we had to buy that we’re donating to them for the next person. Hopefully they will all be well used.
I was very surprised by the results of Wordle guess 3.

Good Morning!
Nice that your heat spell broke... we should be a bit cooler today as it is supposed to be on the cloudy side...
Nice job on the Wordle, took me a bit more work...

Interesting pattern. Find a letter that DOESN’T go in the 2nd spot. Figure out where some letters go. Find another letter that DOESN’T go in the 2nd spot. Figure out the word.
Yes, I was fortunate in that the yellow letter on the 3rd row pretty much had to be the first letter since we are working in English...
Rainy days and Thursdays... 58 and drizzle. More wet on tap for later in to tomorrow...

Karen Carpenter certainly had a voice you don’t forget. Sometimes I’ll hear The Carpenters on an oldies station and just be blown away.
Of course, if she had been alive today the Dims would be telling us that it’s perfectly normal to not want to eat. (grumble).
I read somewhere that The Carpenters couldn’t get any traction at all until someone suggested that Karen try a song in the alto range instead of the soprano she’d been singing in. Talk about a genius suggestion.
We are supposed to get some passing boomers later today into the evening... hard to predict how much wet stuff will fall...
🤣
