Russian food inflation remains rampant, with butter prices rising 30% since December last year. Sunflower oil and vegetables are among the other items seeing ongoing price rises.
Russia's central bank last month hiked interest rates to 21% — their highest level in over 20 years — but the high rates have shown few signs of dampening inflation so far.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied that Russia has exchanged "butter for guns," as the country's leadership has deflected blame for price rises onto "unfriendly" countries.
-snip-
"To say we spend too much money for guns and forget about butter — this is not so. I would like to underscore that all, exactly all the earlier announced plans of development and achievement of strategic objectives and all the social commitments assumed by the state towards the population — all of them are being performed to the full extent," Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club in October, TASS news agency reported.

President Trump wasn’t intimidated by Putin’s nuke threats.
That's good to hear. Hey marcusbot, the next time you speak with PDJT, can you include me on the call?
Food and gas prices soared in America and Europe but nobody dare blame America’s proxy war in Ukraine. The knife cuts both ways. Russia is dominating the war in Ukraine and Joke Biden is still throwing good money after bad while escalating the war at the same time. I don’t see anything to be excited about with the war in Ukraine. Russia will adjust to higher food prices just like everyone in the west.
The health Nazis keep telling us that neither guns nor butter are any good for us.
It is interesting that the usuals always attack the messenger and not the message.
Do they dispute the claims of higher food prices, record high interest rates and inflation? No
There is a lot that we don’t know about what is going on within Russia and Ukraine to be sure, but what was reported in this article are not.
Record high inflation and interest rates in Russia are a fact reported by Russian officials. My guess is that inflation numbers are even higher than what is reported, and the Kremlin is bleeding money at an unsustainable rate and they know this.
Right now Putin and his officials have no choice but to claim “all is well, nothing to see here keep moving”, but reality is different. How different and by that I mean how much worse would be pure speculation, but there are signs.
Ruble 104 to a dollar(black market much higher)
Massive portion of Russian budget spent on war and internal security….
A good sign of how things are going will be how the Russian infrastructure holds up over the winter. Last winter was bad. Let’s see how this winter goes.
Increased number of Russian companies declaring bankruptcy
Individual areas having to continually increase bonuses to get people to enlist to meet Kremlin quotas for military.
None of this is to say that the situation is any better in Ukraine, but to say reporting issues in Russia as being bad and getting worse is propaganda is whistling past the graveyard.
So flame the poster, but that doesn’t change the facts on the ground
Guns are already extremely restricted in Russia. Now they don’t have butter either. Looks like they’ve achieved Health Nazi paradise.
If the oligarchs rule Russia, then why are we trying to oust Putin? That makes no sense, but then you never make sense. What is gained by ousting Putin? You speak BS out of both sides of your mouth with each side contradicting the other side. You can’t even manage what you have said, apparently.
It’s now one hour since marcusbot last fed US his witless repetitive one line responses. I think his mom killed the power in the basement.
Just blame his predecessor, whoever that was. Works for the democrats.
When the news was not so cheery to him/her/it (that is, we weren't ramping up the world for WWIII) that he/she/it was starting threads far less often.
Talk about a "Sunshine Patriot" for Ukraine. But hey, it it weren't all blather, this person would be over there on the front lines fighting, right?
His AI is rudimentary at best, but at least it doesn’t require much energy consumption. 😋
Took awhile for folks to blame Biden …. So it happens
“My guess is that inflation numbers are even higher than what is reported, and the Kremlin is bleeding money at an unsustainable rate and they know this.”
And the day Trump tells Putin that his plan is to lower the price of a barrel of oil, as well as sell Europe LNG, the war with Ukraine ends.
Yes, it really is that simple.
How does someone posting a news story mean that they support them? Do we have the First Amendment, or do we not have the First Amendment? If it was Ukraine saying they had high costs in butter, you would have no problem with that.
Everything’s propaganda if they don’t want to hear it. I’ve noticed that pattern here. Apparently there’s a few people on here who think they can decide what we can post or not.
I dare.
War -- all the wars and all the police actions and all the kinetic actions and beyond in terns of euphemisms -- increase inflation, specifically because debt is incurred, and incurring debt increases inflation.
Putin and darn near every other national leader busy increasing their national debts are to blame for inflation.
A peek at our part in the inflation, worldwide:
