For a host of reasons, it became convenient for progressives to suggest that large numbers were fleeing Florida in search of a better life.
When Florida governor Ron DeSantis was a GOP presidential frontrunner, liberal Democrats dug up every scrap of information suggesting he was an ineffective governor, noting that thousands were fleeing his state as a result of his supposedly poor governance. When Trump became the GOP nominee, the attack on Trump’s adopted home state continued. Hundreds if not thousands of articles were generated implying that Trump’s adopted home state was such a disaster that there was a mass exodus. The reality is just the opposite.
To begin, the idea that Florida is losing residents is simply not true. Of course, some residents are always leaving, and others are migrating into the state, but the net result is that Florida gained 2.7 million residents (14.7%) from 2010 to 2020 — more in numeric terms than any other state except Texas. From 2019 to 2024, it is estimated that Florida’s population grew by 1.5% annually, or 7.5% altogether, and there is no indication that its population will stop growing.
Florida is well run by its respected governor. It does not impose personal income taxes (or taxes on pharmaceutical items); it offers a $50,000 homestead exemption for homeowners residing in their homes as primary residences; it has spectacular weather from October to May (and livable conditions from June through September); it is an increasingly conservative state, where personal freedom is respected; and it is very safe outside some areas within its larger cities.
If there is a mass exodus taking place, it is from California, New York, and Illinois. These states have become less attractive because of the high cost of living, crime, high taxes, regulation, and government intrusion...

Truth does not matter very much to leftists. Everything is about the revolution.
I WISH that the LEFTISTS would leave this wonderful state!!
The “people are leaving Florida” meme is hilarious. I saw a YouTube video title something like, “Why no one lives here” with a box including my house the Panhandle. Everywhere I go in Florida, houses are being built, roads resurfaced, and infrastructure installed. However, I’m perfectly fine if liberals convince liberals not to come here. (Honestly. We have alligators!!!)
Too crowded. Too hot. Too humid. And worst of all, NO INCOME TAX!! How could the state possibly afford all the bennies the Left requires?????
If I could afford it I’d be down there like a shot.

They just don’t see the connection between democrat run hellholes and republican run states.
Remember not that many years ago Florida was a purple state that Democrats won a regular basis, DeSantis and Trumpwon huge majorities and no Democrat is elected statewide
if you go to YouTube and look at tours of the most expensive homes in the United States, it’s funny, there are almost all in Florida. Oceanfront mansions that are in the hundreds of millions of dollars it’s insane. It used to be that Paris and London had the most expensive houses, now, literally, it is Florida. I looked at a video last night where they were touring a $50 million mansion on the ocean, and it literally was a very small place and it didn’t even look that impressive. The prices are just insane.

“No, no. It’s horrible here...
Too crowded. Too hot. Too humid.”
.

...housing and insurance costs exploding...
Alligators everywhere and, with the oceans rising, crocodiles will increase and your house will fall into the sea...
Move out while you can...!
😱
Florida may be a solidly conservative state now, but unfortunately the cost of housing and very hot temperatures make it a no go for me.
If the entire state of FL turned into The Villages, I think I’d want to live there.
That must be why they ran out of uHaul trucks......oh wait, that was California.

Look at north Florida. There are entire counties with less than 10,000 residents. Prices are unreal compared to 40 years ago but there is still affordable housing in some places.
Now, about temperatures; it is hot.
...I've said too much....
Having moved from a deep red state, I love living in Florida.
You mean the place with the highest rate of STDs? That Villages?
I was down near Orlando several years back visiting my son. I think it was May. I spent only 4 days there. I couldn’t wait to get back to Indiana. The first day there was so hot I spent the next recovering from it. I was not prepared for it.
I lived in Sebring Florida for seven years. The established, old families are wonderful folks, real salt of the earth types. I did not like snowbird season though. Most were ok, but there was a large percentage who were rude, demanding, and entitled; and some of the worst drivers I’ve seen.
The heat got too much for me too. As I’ve aged, I like the cool, dry climate more.
