Putin claims Oreshnik missile's mass use as devastating as nuclear weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the mass deployment of the Oreshnik intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) could rival the destructive power of nuclear weapons, highlighting its precision and strategic potential.

During a meeting with military officials, defense industry representatives, and missile system developers in Moscow on Friday, Putin said the Oreshnik is not only an ICBM and a means of mass destruction but also a high-precision weapon.

"I would like to emphasize one more aspect here. The Oreshnik missile system is not just an effective hypersonic weapon. Due to its striking power, especially when used en masse and in combination with other long-range precision systems that Russia also has, using it against enemy targets will be comparable in effect and power to using strategic weapons," he said.

Karakayev praised the system’s ability to overcome current and future missile defense mechanisms, describing its hypersonic warheads as effective against diverse targets, including heavily fortified ones.

"Given the weapon’s designated tasks and range, it can hit targets across Europe, offering significant advantages over other types of long-range precision weapons. As you earlier noted, the mass use of this weapon would be comparable to the use of nuclear weapons," he said.

Officer: It’s only got one weakness sir, and other than that it’s the king of battle.

Hitler: What’s the weakness?

Officer: it can only go where there’s train tracks, sir.

Hitler: Oh FFS.

In that case, if Russia starts to use these weapons the West should close off the Turkish and Danish straits. All of this would stop if Russia would just leave Ukraine. A part of that deal could be security guarantees such as no NATO and no foreign troops in Ukraine. Russia claims that this was the reason it invaded; then this should satisfy their war aims. Russia should accept this chalk it up as a win.

You do know the Russians can stack Avangard missiles atop their Oreshnik delivery system. One Oreshnik with a payload of 130 tons of TNT. Forget that! What’s 130tons of TNT being dropped at a time all over Europe when we’re talking about keeping your hero, Spandex Pants, rolling in grift and MIC profits through the roof?

“The high speed of the Avangard likely gives it far better target-penetration characteristics than subsonic cruise-missiles. The Avangard weighs about 2,000 kg and travels at Mach 20–27, giving it the equivalent of 21 tons of TNT in kinetic energy alone, excluding any explosive warhead.”
