Fury in Russia at 'serious escalation' of missile move
BBC ^ | Nov 19 | Steve Rosenberg, BBC Russia Editor

President Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to strike inside Russia with long-range missiles supplied by the US has sparked a furious response in Russia.

"Departing US president Joe Biden… has taken one of the most provocative, uncalculated decisions of his administration, which risks catastrophic consequences," declared the website of the Russian government newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Monday morning.

Russian MP Leonid Slutsky, head of the pro-Kremlin Liberal-Democratic Party, predicted that the decision would "inevitably lead to a serious escalation, threatening serious consequences".

Russian senator Vladimir Dzhabarov called it "an unprecedented step towards World War Three".

Anger, yes. But no real surprise.

Komsomolskaya Pravda, the pro-Kremlin tabloid, called it "a predictable escalation".

What really counts, though, is what Vladimir Putin calls it and how the Kremlin leader responds.

So far he’s stayed silent.

But on Monday President Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that “if such a decision has been taken it means a whole new spiral of tension and a whole new situation with regard to US involvement in this conflict".

Mr Peskov accused the Biden administration of “adding fuel to the fire and continuing to stoke tension around this conflict".

Really cynical/stupid move for Biden to do this in the dying embers of his presidency. It can only be to sabotage Trump's efforts?

I think it’s to maximize the money spent by the deep deep state. They should have allowed this on day 1. But they didn’t want Ukraine to win...they wanted the war to drag on and on and on. Now that the war is about to end because Trump is coming to office they want to get rid of even more weapons so we will have to buy more of them.

Stupid, dangerous move by the string pullers in the Intelligience Community. Putin will react in a “proportional” way. Thank goodness, the missiles in question are 90% ineffective. The MIC and IC won’t get their war. Putin and his forbearance are good for another sixty days.

Putin’s reacting by freezing ALL Ukes, cutting Western underwater communication cables and most sadly, arming the Iranians and Houthis with much new offense and defensive weaponry to be used on the other American proxy war ally in Israel.

OK for Russia to hit civilian targets inside Ukraine but not ok for Ukraine to hit military targets inside Russia? Explain to me how that works again please.

Actually, it gives Trump something with which to negotiate. A screw to turn: tighten or loosen. Biden and Trump likely settled on the step during their meeting in the White House last week.

Putin is not taking the bait to get WWIII going. He knows full well to wait this out until Trump gets in. Russia stands to retain taken territory in a peace settlement as well as a guarantee Ukraine stays out of NATO.

The losers here are MIC, the IC, the democrats, the Ukrainian laundromat society running the war and the zeepers.

Stupid, cynical, and evil. Our current crop of ‘leaders’ making this move are putting a lot of lives in jeopardy.

This isn’t some debate about fairness. This is a question of what it will cost us in terms of the Russian counter move. As we refrained from allowing Uke access to our guidance systems for long range missiles the Ruskies have refrained from arming Houthis and Iranians. I imagine that will no longer be the case.

Reckless old sonofabitch, isn’t he?

He’s burning up his “legacy” on all fronts.

“OK for Russia to hit civilian targets inside Ukraine but not ok for Ukraine to hit military targets inside Russia? Explain to me how that works again please.”

It’s not Ukes doing it. It is us and the Brits.
If Russia or China gave advanced weapons and provided operators to shoot them -into- the USA from Cuba or Venezuela, we would regard that as an attack by Russia or China on the USA.

The nazis have fired numerous drones and rockets into Russia. But they correctly argue that if Ukes are using precision weapons that they cannot use without us, that is NATO, shooting into Russia... with all that implies.

“He knows full well to wait this out until Trump gets in. Russia stands to retain taken territory in a peace settlement as well as a guarantee Ukraine stays out of NATO.”

It’s doubtful the Russians will agree. They are not screaming for a peace agreement now, we are, because our pet Ukes are falling apart and we no longer want to waste money.
Russia is already keeping what they have taken, and made it legally a part of Russia. Kiev won’t ever acknowledge those areas are no longer theirs.
Next, that no NATO promise is meaningless to the Russians after the Minsk plan. Russia plays chess. They know we desperately want a cease fire so we can flood Ukraine with weapons, advisors, jets, and missiles... and then some afternoon admit them into NATO as a fait accompli.

Last, we will offer the Russians nothing. No repair of the Nordstream we blew up, no turning on SWIFT and banking, no release of the hundreds of billions of gold and currency on deposit here we stole. No ending of sanctions.

This peace plan is basically us really needing it to stop because we can’t go on much more, and we need to rebuild the Uke military, and us offering the Russians nothing they want.

Might as well call it Minsk III.

“OK for Russia to hit civilian targets inside Ukraine but not ok for Ukraine to hit military targets inside Russia? “

No one here is saying that. We are not okay with using American weapons to do it. We recognize and support the Ukraine’s right to defend themselves. We don’t support their efforts to widen the war and involve the USA in it. That’s a huge difference.

It is okay for Ukraine to hit Russia as long as they aren’t using NATO supplied and operated weapons.

Surprised you don’t get that.

Iranians are the primary source of attack drones supplied to Russia.

Hitler used his own stuff. Stalin used tons of everything from the West in his victory in WW2. According to your brilliant logic, Mr. Genius, we should condemn Stalin for defending Russia and praise Hitler for his brave effort?
