Amongst all the news of the recent escalation of Russ missile attacks, and subsequent Biden orders lifting restrictions on ATACMS use in Russ some events have been overlooked.

Specifically Russ has claimed to have destroyed 3 Ukr HIMARS systems in the last few days. Since 39 total have been deployed in the entire war I would say this is significant If true.

I wonder how many have been reported destroyed; both sides make extensive use of decoys, so I won't be surprised if 75 of the 39 HIMARS have been reported destroyed so far, while a few keep shooting. ;-)

A month or two ago the MSC showed video of 4 launchers being hit shortly after they had fired themselves. So those were probably not decoys. Note that my understanding is a HIMARS unit involves multiple vehicles (command, comms, multiple launchers and so on), so hitting 4 launchers may only count as "1" HIMARS. And hitting various vehicles in different HIMARS units may allow for full units to be reconstituted by shuffling around the remaining pieces of a degraded unit. Still, there's a plethora of evidence that Ukrainian AD and artillery is being seriously degraded.

I don’t know why Ukraine is worth our most advanced weapons systems. We just ship them over there and they get destroyed. Then we have to buy new ones.

That’s exactly why.

The first comment below the video from @giostisskylas says,

“Look at the Kyiv Reservoir. This is a huge reservoir with a water volume of 3730 million m³ on the northern outskirts of Kyiv. The dam of this reservoir has not been touched by Russia. If the dam of the Kyiv Reservoir ever falls, the result would be the TOTAL destruction of Kyiv. A destruction that would probably be more thorough than a nuclear attack. This dam power plant is also the reason why Kyiv still has electricity. The Russians do not attack this facility because an incalculable number of civilians would lose their lives. Under this condition, as a member of the junta or a citizen of Kyiv, I would be less belligerent and would think twice about attacking targets in Moscow and St. Petersburg with US long-range weapons.”

The comments below that comment are interesting as well.

This madness has to be stopped! The sooner Zelensky and his wife are sun bathing in front of their pool at a villa near the Mediterranean the better.

To: EnderWiggin1970; anyone

A valid point on the decoys.

I wondered if in fact 3 were destroyed in 24 hours or so , why? Then I remembered that Biden had told them they could strike at targets inside Russ.

Maybe they are moving the HIMARS closer to the front so they can get more range inside Russ. Thus exposing them???

Yeah, Simplicius made the same point in his latest post on Ukraine. (https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/operation-dark-winter-resumes-as)

I read all his posts because he always shares a wealth of information from all sorts of sources, though I think he also suffers from a worse-than-average case of that common malady, believing-in-what-he-wants-to-believe. Still, he makes the same point that using HIMARS in Kursk is more likely to get them blown up as they need to approach Russian front lines to do so.
