Ukrainian troops are facing down a ferocious Russian counteroffensive in Kursk as Putin seeks to take back Russian land before any talks.
The fight to control some 200 square miles of land in western Russia became even more brutal in recent days as the Kremlin, ahead of possible negotiations with the incoming Trump administration to end the war, appears set on removing Russian territory from the equation.
-snip-
The timing appears to demonstrate the Kremlin’s growing appreciation for how Kursk may play into future talks: If negotiations are to occur, Russia wants to make sure only Ukrainian land is up for debate.
“It is clear that Moscow will not start any negotiations until they have kicked out every last Ukrainian soldier from Kursk,” Konstantin Remchukov, the editor in chief of Nezavisimaya Gazeta who moves in Kremlin circles, told The Washington Post. Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want Kursk to be used as a bargaining chip — nor does he want to be forced to relinquish any of the Ukrainian territory he has captured since Russia’s invasion, Remchukov added. Putin’s recent mentions that any deal needs to reflect the “realities on the ground” refers to Russia’s hopes to recapture Kursk, he said.

We have been told that the Ukrainian line has been collapsing for 2 1/2 years now. That is the slowest collapse that I have ever seen.
Zeepers deny the coup. The story of Vicky Vamprie Nuland handing out cookies was code for US supplied food and water to sustain the protest’s staying power - we provided all the food, water, and other necessary for a large group of people to remain in the public square.
So the Ukrainian majority in those territories should accept Russian rule because the Russian minority is upset?
Tell that to the Germans and VW who are closing three factorys, and their production is down from 7+m annually in Germany to under 3M today. Brics will use Easter energy, and the west will be hostage to USD based trade. Our NG is 3.5x the Russia NG, hence the deindustrializtion of Europe.
“The [Russian] ZALA Lancet can be used for both reconnaissance and strike missions. It has a maximum range of 40 kilometres (25 mi) and a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of up to 12 kilograms (26 lb). In combat mode, it can be armed either with high explosive (HE), HE-fragmentation or shaped charge warheads. It features optical-electronic guidance and TV guidance unit, which allows the munition to be controlled during the terminal stage of flight.”
“Lancet can be launched via catapult launcher from ground or sea platforms like the Raptor-class patrol boats. The drone is powered by an electric motor.
“ZALA drones use radio frequencies in the bands 868-870 MHz and 902-928 MHz. Lancet operates on two frequency channels with a reserve frequency to complicate jamming, and they can interface with communication relay UAVs.”

NATO spend 10-years building up the AFU. Russia has spend 2.5 years destroying it.
Schultz called Putin - sounds to me like the west is aware that Ukraine is finished.
Kursk exists for two reasons, Biden willed, and the Russians find it condusive to the destruction of the AFU.
Russia will continue to very slowly move in Kursk and as long as the Ukrainians want to keep moving more forces into the region, the longer the Russians will target them. This is the story of the entire war that Russia does not actually move forward until Ukraine stops sending soldiers.
Like a moth to light Ukraine is attracted to death.
Ukraine only has to hold on for 65 days and Trump will be President.
I suspect the Trump terms will be Russia/Ukraine go back to the pre-war areas they controlled.
Trump will be as firm as possible.
By the time Trump comes back into office, I predict that he will have washed his hands of Ukraine and dumped it into the laps of those who want to fight Russia, e.g., Zelinski and Germany/EU.
Trump will have distanced himself from Ukraine. Trump actually thought he could get Ukraine to sit down with Russia. Instead he gets nuclear blackmail from Zelinski and an EU that wants to continue the war.
Trump will start to signal that American has other priorities and the US will lessen support for Kiev. Trump has stated he would do this. Zelinski and Ukraine will not nogotiate and Russia has alwyas been willing.
As Trump stated, Zelinski will be on his own.
Well, they must be really happy that their saviours have pounded their entire region into a Somme-like landscape, instead of losing ~20 people a year to a piddly shooting match between the nearly non-existent nazi horde and the little green vatniks.
“They sought their independence and willingly agreed to join the Russian Federation.”
A few thousand drunken, bitter old Soviet nostalgia freaks, a few hundred chancers on the take like Pushilin and Stremousov, plus the Russian soldiers on (cough) holiday, were the only people who voted for the 2014 coups in Donestk and Luhansk.
Russia didn’t even invite 80% of the population of Zaporizhzhia to vote because it knew how they’d vote.
You really are astoundingly retarded if you think any of that excrement coming out of St Petersburg is even remotely connected to the truth.
What Khamenei doink? LOL!
I wonder who markymarkimus is going to work for when this gravy train runs dry in a couple of months?
Marcy will find some war, any war where he/she can offer its Propaganda services
Trade Kursk for the Crimean Peninsula?
On which Russian propaganda source are you basing that?
And the media will say Trump handed Putin Ukraine.
I would agree about much of that period. You need to check the current maps though, land is being lost faster than ever now. Russia is reported to have started an offensive along much of the front. 0-18% of the country was a slow grind. 18-25% has gone quick. Youtube: Weeb Union is good for maps. Willy OAM is a Ukraine supporter but tells the straight story. Check him out too, he’s a good dude. The newest problem for Ukraine is soldiers are said to be deserting at very high rates. I think the outcome is not in doubt and Z should save lives and land. Rock on.
You got that right, but that comes with the territory.
My sense is Putin will never give up Crimea. Ukraine’s best troops are holding their own in Kursk but supply lines will become a big problem.
