Nation falls silent as King leads Remembrance ceremony
bbc ^

King Charles has led the nation in two minutes of silence in remembrance of men and women who lost their lives serving in the two world wars or other conflicts.

Tens of thousands of veterans and civilians joined the King in paying their respects to the fallen at the annual National Service of Remembrance ceremony at the Cenotaph in central London.

The King was joined by other members of the Royal Family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, and political leaders.

Events to mark Remembrance Sunday - observed on the closest Sunday to Armistice Day - are taking place around the country.

The King laid the first wreath on behalf of the nation. Dressed in the Royal Navy uniform of the Admiral of the Fleet, he saluted after stepping back from the Cenotaph.

The King was followed by Queen Camilla’s equerry, Major Ollie Plunket, laying a wreath on her behalf as she is currently recovering from a chest infection.

Prince William, Prince Edward and Princess Anne followed, then Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the country's other political leaders.

Also watching from balconies were Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer.

It is tradition for only the heads of parties with six or more seats in Parliament and the leaders of the largest party from each of the devolved nations to lay a wreath.

Members of the armed forces, including veterans of World War Two, then laid their wreaths, before commencing a march down Whitehall which took more than an hour to complete.

The thousands-strong group, representing 326 different armed forces and civilian organisations, marched past the Cenotaph. Each group had a wreath that was handed over to join those that had already been placed.

Beautiful. OUR OWN COUNTRY NEEDS MORE NATIONAL DAYS AND MOMENTS LIKE THESE!

NOT TO MENTION WE NEED TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF OUR VETERANS.

Princess Catherine looks amazing as always.

No human undertaking was ever so toxic and wasteful as the First World War.

It didn't end—it just went into half-time until they could get World War Two going.

Most British citizens take honoring their War dead, far more seriously than most Americans. If store merchants cannot think of how to use that date to sell retail items at a discount, they don’t usually bring it up at all. Meaning, there is not much to remind us of the day’s significance.

When I was young, everyone wore a red poppy on 11/11. The VFW used to give them out for a donation.

I haven't seen anyone wear a red poppy in a long time.

Christians killing Christians for the last 1700 years. No wonder Islam is the world’s fastest growing religion. Globalism is Satanic

In Flanders Fields

By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian physician, on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of a friend and fellow soldier killed in the Second Battle of Ypres. It was published in December 1915, in 'Punch' magazine. On January 28, 2918 McCrae died of pneumonia with "extensive pneumococcus meningitis".

It is read every year at Canadian Remembrance Day Services, and led to the wearing of a poppy, as a form of remembrance in Commonwealth, and most European countries. It was supposed to be the 'war to end all wars'. (It was, at least until the next one.)

Not too many of those WWII vets left. The youngest would be around 97 years old.

Is it your contention that muslims never kill each other?

Prior to WWI, 1/4 of the world’s population was European. Our Christian against Christian wars have cannibalized us and decimated our population. Yes Muslims kill each other, but not with the in industrial age effectiveness and efficiency as we kill ourselves
