no senator appears to be willing to be the first person who publicly calls for Sotomayor to step down.
However, Democrats have discussed possible replacements, with D.C. Circuit Judge J. Michelle Childs being mentioned.
Childs was vetted and even received backing by a few GOP senators such as Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

“But this article legitimately does raise the likelihood that Trump will have 2 or 3 more picks for the Supreme Court. May he use those picks wisely, to solidify a conservative Court for the next 20 years.”
He needs to do better than Amey Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh. They’re pikers compared to Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Trump has a mandate and 53 senators on his side. He doesn’t need to compromise with the likes of Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins in order to get his judges confirmed. I hope he nominates the most hard-right constitutional judges available.

I doubt if Judge Sotomayor’s ego would allow her to quietly resign and recede into the background, of writing legacy books. She likes being part of that very exclusive group of ‘deciders’.

Is there a reason they don’t expect her to outlive Trump’s presidency?Or JD Vance from 2028 to 2036

There is insufficient time to get this done. Plus, Sotomayor can ignore them without issues. The Constitution says that she has lifetime tenure. But this article legitimately does raise the likelihood that Trump will have 2 or 3 more picks for the Supreme Court. May he use those picks wisely, to solidify a conservative Court for the next 20 years. You're right - not enough time. Also we need to patch the hole that would allow democrats to expand and pack the courts if they EVER take control back

I remember when Justice Bryer “announced” his retirement.
A media guy called him up to comment on his retirement and and Bryers first response was kind of a shocked, “ I didn't announce any retirement”

Trump needs to put a very tight rein and muzzle on Lindsey Graham. Graham has a habit of doing really stupid stuff because he’s in love with cameras, microphones, and himself. I believe he is partially, if not completely, responsible for killing the “red wave” in 2022. Graham is up for reelection in 2026. Trump should give a hint that if he doesn’t “toe the line” he could face a difficult primary…

What’s their problem with her? Is she too old and they think she will die soon, leaving another opening for a Trump nomination?
