Researchers have discovered that plasticizers DEHP and DINP have negative effects on normal brain function in vertebrates. These plasticizers are used in products such as PVC, paints, and cosmetics.
Phthalates are among the most commonly used plasticizers. However, plasticizers often leach from products over time, entering the environment and making their way into the human body via food, clothing, and dust.
DEHP, in particular, has been proven to have severe impacts on development and reproduction, which is why it has been replaced in many instances by DINP, which is considered to be a safer alternative.
Recent studies, however, have shown DEHP can also impair the blood-brain barrier, which protects the brains of vertebrates from pathogens or toxins in the blood.
Prof. Dr. Stefan Schuster exposed goldfish to an environmentally relevant concentration of plasticizers for one month. They then investigated the effects of DEHP and DINP on the brain by examining the Mauthner neuron—the largest nerve cell in the hindbrain of fish.
The Mauthner neuron is accessible for such measurements and receives input from a variety of sensory systems.
"The results of our study are alarming and, with some caution, can also be applied to humans. Basic brain functions, such as how nerve cells process and transmit information, as well as the transmission of information from one nerve cell to another, is comparable in both fish and humans," says Dr. Machnik.
Measurements taken from the Mauthner neurons of the fish showed that both DEHP and DINP reduced the conduction speed of the nerve cell by 20%.
A reduction in conduction speed could negatively affect other nerve cells and impair normal brain function. In addition, the researchers observed various negative impacts on the connections between nerve cells—the synapses. They also found evidence that both plasticizers impair the visual perception of the fish.

These are also known as “Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)” and “diisononyl phthalate (DiNP).”
Reducing flexible plastics in your home could be helpful, but I will next post a new article that shows these components are in higher quantities in the air of cities.

Makes you wonder if products such as flexible fan blades on your typical Walmart fan from China is killing you. It's ingenious, use it on the fan blades that constantly blows this material around the room!
another one.
Years ago I eliminated as many plastics as I could in my house. For example, when I buy some kind of food in a flexible or even non-flexible plastic container, I transfer to glass. I save good sized glass jars, wash and re-use for foods such as rice, beans, flour, pasta, nuts, dried fruit, etc.
I wrote in another one of these threads related to the danger of plastics a few minutes ago. I worked as a Hazmat officer in charge of a Hazmat team for many years. We had a saying, “The solution to pollution is dilution.” Below a certain exposure level even the most toxic substances are typically harmless... some are even beneficial.
Quasi-scientific papers such as this one created by eco-activists working at foreign lefty educational institutions... do far more harm than actual products because of the anxiety they produce in the gullible segments of our society.

Humans cant live without plastics.
She’s a “real piece of work”.
The labeling costs on this are going to be fantastic.
