It's saturday have fun and not worry about polls.
Oh and Dick York was the better Darrin.
Flame away.
back injury
I know about Dick York and the terrible problems he had with his back. You wonder if modern surgery and rehab would have worked miracles for him and likely saved his acting career.
Own the whole series on DVD. Husband adores it and I enjoy it. We periodically go through the whole series. Also, I Dream of Jeanne.
Someone here on FR told me it was based on a movie called Good Neighbor Sam, which starred Jack Lemmon.
Oh, and my kids loved Dick York, and disliked Dick Sargent.
I think it has been written about before, but the main actors did not live long in real life. Dick York died at age 63. Dick Sargent at age 64. Elizabeth Montgomery at age 62.
Both were Dicks!
I hear you. I CAN’T WAIT until this election is over. Every Saturday night I watch Svengoolie on MeTV and Kamala has been HAMMERING the channel with ads for ages. I can’t take it anymore. I WANT THIS ELECTION OVER!
As as I kid, I loved Samantha... a lot. Frequently.
Fun show. Elizabeth Montgomery certainly had that grin and look that sold viewers on her character.
I know everyone loves Dick York’s Darren. But he played him a little too manic for my tastes.
Bewitched started a year before I Dream of Jeannie. In Bewitched, Darrin and Sam were always married but when Tony finally married Jeannie, it killed that show. The writing, Agnes Moorehead and the relationship between Darrin, Endora and the rest of Samantha’s family made a big difference.
Bewitched was always on after Gilligan’s Island when I was a kid (either on channel 17 or 29, I can’t remember which). I usually watched it, but when the show came on it always left me depressed because it always punctuated that afternoon cartoons were over for the day.
Mrs. Kravits would be known today as Neighborhood Karen.
One of my favorite lines in the usual script was delivered by Darrin’s boss, Larry Tate. Larry was married to this nagging hypochondriac named Phillis, who had a habit of phoning him every time she felt a ‘sick headache’ which was quite frequently.
When he couldn’t dodge his (attractive) secretary who answered the phone, Larry would listen for a few minutes and wrap the call up with ‘Phillis, take a pill!” then hang up. He knew that’s where she was leading to anyway. Not the most nicest of husband responses, but it was quite funny to my family anyway,
the first two seasons were the best...it was pretty much done in the normal sitcom formula - just happened to have characters with supernatural powers. The later seasons got too much focus on the “witch’s council”, etc. and other gimmicks too focused on the powers themselves in some episodes.
Aunt Clara was probably my favorite character, though my favorite episodes did not include her - they were the episodes with the private investigator.
York wore a back brace and had chronic pain from an injury on a movie set. It got worse and he left the show because of it.
Dick York has a back injury that was debilitating. Couldn’t continue with the role any longer.
Been watching it for free with ads on
FreeVee. Still on the first season,
colorized. Early appearances by later
famed actors
Raquel Welch
Bill Daily
Vic Tayback (Mel on Alice)
Bob Dornan (later CA rep, “B1 Bob”)
Tim Walz’s speech and mannerisms remind me a lot of those of Dick Sargent. Seriously
*And, yes, I am implying what you think I’m implying.
