DEI, perhaps?
These tiny town police forces are often hotbeds of intrigue.
The cops are paid next to nothing. And often they either do nothing or act like Barney Fife.
Most of these little towns would be better served by disbanding their local departments and paying the county sheriff’s office for coverage.
Every once in a while this happens.
Could be drugs, or Billy Bob screwed Rufu’s old lady.
Going with aliens.
A 1000 person town doesnt nee a ‘force’. It needs 1 constable/officer (if that) and semi-frequent visits from the sheriff & state patrol.
My home town of 800 hasn’t had an officer for 50+ years (part time prior to that) and hasn’t been an issue.
They were all involved in something nefarious and were convinced to leave by someone who can bring it to light.
I’m guessing wild sex romps together with other parties.
No I am not kidding.
Police saw even the children are evil now and not worth defending....Then they felt their minds being controlled and a strong desire to resign.

They found $10mm in drugs. See ya!
Being on the City Council has been eye-opening to the unknown challenges the city faces, I still
believe in Geary and that it can be a bustling city again with the right accumulative guidance.
We have good people who continue to work for the city because they believe in the city, too.
I employ the citizens of Geary to be more proactive during council meetings and to listen to
what is going on. The council is made up of elected officials, and you, the citizens, should have
your voices heard. It is your right under the constitution.
The police had their one last chance to leave this cesspool of evil people. They took it. We’re left behind.

We had a small town where two cops who were buddy’s went on some cop training thing. They got so drunk one shot and killed the other in the motel they were staying.
Same thing happened in our small Oklahoma town. If I recall, the cops were frustrated that crime was going without arrests, drug houses would be my guess. There are several, but they never seem to get busted. Interestingly enough, the rest of the crime is not commensurate with the drug house crime. No increased robberies, burglaries, etc., to match the number of drug houses. A guy told me he asked the sheriff why drug houses don’t get busted. He told him that they never get prosecuted because they only keep an dollar amount that falls under the $1,000 felony amount.
Was the entire police force’s name Barney?
Was he mad that he only gets one bullet and has to keep it in his pocket?
I read “Canadian Mounties” and my blood pressure went up. Crazy times, deep breath and humor!
Bongino rule:
Give it 72 hours and the truth will be revealed.
Isn’t this Bigfoot country?
They probably know too much.
the City hired an auditor to review the police dept. Instead of cooperating with the auditor the cops quit. If the cops did nothing wrong, why not cooperate?
Self defunding the police.
Town of a thousand?
One or two people?
If so, folks may have been working on a shoestring and the camels back finally gave in.
Rather than Kick up a fuss, these probably either just split or retired elsewhere.
If a city or town neglects to invite businesses in, or becomes business unfriendly, this all too often is the result.
Also, many small cities and towns become gentrified. Nobody there but the elderly, mostly living on social security. The revenue simply gets eaten up... And unless there is an influx of young people, places dry up, looking pretty decrepit.
Cities and towns die off regularly. The roads crumble, the weeds and scrub take over and only a pile of rubble is left. Sad, but true.
Wise is the city council that pays attention to how it operates. And not just over human foibles.
