“Why did Russia invade Ukraine?”

The word I heard is that Putin wanted access to the Black Sea.

Because Russia rightly felt threatened from NATO expansion into Ukraine. There was need for NATO expansion into Ukraine. NATO only exists to counter the Soviet Union, at least in theory, but that has not been the case entirely.

Russia warned in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would be considered “red lines” if NATO expanded into Eastern Europe. This warning was explicitly stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in April 2008, during a speech in which he emphasized that the presence of a powerful military bloc on Russia’s borders, guided by Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, would be perceived as a direct threat to Russia’s national security.

It took on an offensive role during the Bosnian War (1992-1995), NATO played a crucial role in attempting to establish peace and stability in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Since the Soviet Union no longer exists, NATO should have been dissolved.

But the situation got more intense when the CIA executed a color revolution that forcibly removed the duly elected President of Ukraine, where Victoria Nuland passed out sandwiches (she claims) to citizens in the street protesting the sitting president's decision to reject the EU trade agreement & sign with Russia. We were not there to quell the situation, which the sitting president had agreed to step down and hold an early election for a peaceful transition of power. Then violence broke out & people were killed. The violence was blamed on the sitting president, but that claim is highly questionable./ The sitting president had t flee and the U.S. swopped in & inserted themselves into a volatile situation.

Putin tried to get the International Community involved in seeking a peaceful resolution. Which is where the Minsk Accords I & II were brought forth & signed, but were never implemented. When Angela Merkle stepped down she had to brag that they never intended to honor the Minsk accords, that it was just entered into to buy time to arm & train Ukraine to fight Russia.
