The United States and Russia are very close to engaging in 'direct military conflict,' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned in an interview published Friday in a Turkey daily, just days ahead of a US presidential election.
'Under the current president (Joe Biden), who has taken the downward spiral of Russophobia in the US to its logical conclusion, our countries are on the brink of direct military conflict,' he told the Hurriyet daily, without elaborating.
Asked about next week's US election pitting former Republican president Donald Trump against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Lavrov said the outcome would make little difference to Russia.
'We have no preference. When the Trump administration was in power, it adopted the highest number of anti-Russian sanctions compared to its predecessors,' he said.

Lavrov's comments come just days after Putin staged a mock nuclear war, aunching scores of missiles capable of unleashing a 'massive' strike in a stark warning to the West.

How are the butter lines in Tatarstan today?
“And then Putin wildly overreacted.”
Not really. He had two choices, accept Ukraine in NATO, the loss of Crimea that has been Russian longer than Ohio has been American... OR act.
If he accepted the NATO Ukraine move, it would be permanent.
He spent a year asking for negotiations on the status of the Donbass right up till the last minute. The Uke army we built up was prepping and about to launch it’s final assault on the Donbass.
We answered his final proposal that we would do whatever we wanted, we would only talk to him about topic WE considered relevant but nothing on Ukraine. He was left with two choices... NATO tanks, missiles and jets right up the the Russian border... or go on the attack.
It was not an overreaction. It was binary, surrender to our agenda which would be permanent and unremovable... or roll the tanks. With those choices, he rolled. It’s very rational.
You tell him, Laz.
I do not want this car to turn around again !!!!! 😩
😅😅
America has no stomach for a World War. Putin knows this and knows all he need do is wait and slowly seize land before the “Peace Talks” that might really be “Piece Talks” as Russia will get a chance to take a piece of Ukraine—the part with all the mines and industry. Eastern Ukraine will become Nuvo Russia. North Koreans will help rebuild the ruined cities. Peace in Our Time will be the watch word—for now.
“Why did Russia invade Ukraine?”
The word I heard is that Putin wanted access to the Black Sea.
“Thanks for the nuclear war, you egg-loving prick.”
Laz, I do not think that you should be referring to whoever to whom you refer as a, “prick.” That is the best part of a man, is it not?
You are insulting everyone’s prick! ;-)
Russia warned in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would be considered “red lines” if NATO expanded into Eastern Europe. This warning was explicitly stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in April 2008, during a speech in which he emphasized that the presence of a powerful military bloc on Russia’s borders, guided by Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, would be perceived as a direct threat to Russia’s national security.
It took on an offensive role during the Bosnian War (1992-1995), NATO played a crucial role in attempting to establish peace and stability in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since the Soviet Union no longer exists, NATO should have been dissolved.
But the situation got more intense when the CIA executed a color revolution that forcibly removed the duly elected President of Ukraine, where Victoria Nuland passed out sandwiches (she claims) to citizens in the street protesting the sitting president's decision to reject the EU trade agreement & sign with Russia. We were not there to quell the situation, which the sitting president had agreed to step down and hold an early election for a peaceful transition of power. Then violence broke out & people were killed. The violence was blamed on the sitting president, but that claim is highly questionable./ The sitting president had t flee and the U.S. swopped in & inserted themselves into a volatile situation.
Putin tried to get the International Community involved in seeking a peaceful resolution. Which is where the Minsk Accords I & II were brought forth & signed, but were never implemented. When Angela Merkle stepped down she had to brag that they never intended to honor the Minsk accords, that it was just entered into to buy time to arm & train Ukraine to fight Russia.
That was a succinct and informative answer to the question: Why no Putin lovers are posting positive articles about Russia? Evidently there are none.
No they will not. If they refuse to enter into peace, then Trump will walk away because Ukraine is not a NATO nation.

But nice try.
“Thanks for the nuclear war, you egg-loving prick.”
This war ends when Putin withdraws his troops.
It’s that simple.

Look again. Neither Ukraine nor Georgia have joined NATO. Indeed, as it has been pointed out many times, they are ineligible as long as they have a border dispute with Russia. This was known by Putin. And if this is, as you allege, about Ukraine joining NATO, why did Putin reject Zelensky's offer of no NATO in exchange for Russia leaving Ukraine? That seems to be a question that none of the pro-Russian apologists want to answer. So I guess that it is your turn to try again.
I would also suggest that you look at Putin's statements that he regrets the breakup of the Soviet Union and that Ukraine is rightly a part of Russia.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
To troll globopedo America-last scum.
Wow. They waited until Friday this week to threaten nuclear war. They are slipping.

Perhaps there are no Putin lovers on Free Republic, and perhaps people who are disgusted with the FR zElensky cult [zeepers such as yourself] could care less about what goes on in The Russia.
You may return to hating on The Trump, as is your usual way.
