Actress Teri Garr has died at age 79, Variety reported on Tuesday.
Garr passed away in Los Angeles after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
The late star was best known for her roles in the films “Young Frankenstein” and “Tootsie,” the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Garr was born on December 11, 1944 in Lakewood, Ohio. She moved to Los Angeles and then later to New York to pursue acting. She started out as a go-go dancer and made appearances in six Elvis Presley musicals in the 1960s.
Her first on-screen speaking role was in 1968’s “Head,” written and produced by Jack Nicholson.
Some of her other earliest credits included appearances in shows like “Star Trek,” “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour,” and “The New Dick Van Dyke Show.”
Garr’s big break came with her role as Inga, Frankenstein’s assistant, in Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy horror “Young Frankenstein.” Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman and Cloris Leachman also starred in the movie.
That same year, Garr starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s thriller “The Conversation.” She followed that up with Steven Spielberg’s 1977 sci-fi film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
Come the 1980s, Garr landed a role opposite Dustin Hoffman in the satirical rom-com “Tootsie.” Her performance as Sandy Lester earned Garr her first and only nomination for an Academy Award.

Farewell, Ms. Lincoln.
(Her character in Star Trek)
She was gorgeous in her younger days... I had no idea she was that old.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [Reading from his grandfathers’ notebook] “As the minuteness of the parts formed a great hinderance to my speed, I resolved therefore to make a being of a gigantic stature.”
[pause]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Of course. That would simplify everything.
Inga: In other vords: his veins, his feet, his hands, his organs vould all have to be increased in size.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Exactly.
Inga: He vould have an enormous schwanzstucker.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: That goes without saying.
Inga: Voof.
Igor: He’s going to be very popular.
😂 😆 😝
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [to The Monster] Hello handsome. You're a good looking fellow, do you know that? People laugh at you, people hate you, but why do they hate you? Because... they are jealous. Look at that boyish face. Look at that sweet smile. Do you wanna talk about physical strength? Do you want to talk about sheer muscle? Do you want to talk about the Olympian ideal? You are a God. And listen to me, you are not evil. You... are... good.
I'm laughing so hard I can barely type.
All time classic movie!
Mr. Mom was a great movie.
“...79 is a full life..”
Shut up!😎
It was the roll of a lifetime.
She was one of my favorite actresses. Thank you, Teri, for bringing us many years of laughter.
She was great in those movies...
😀😂😅
Ughhh. The only thing I don’t like about being 61 (on Thursday), is that so many childhood figures are leaving us! 😥
I loved Teri Garr. She was in “Oh God!” with George Burns and John Denver, among other fan favorites.
RIP Terri Garr. Always liked her, saw her on Letterman like someone else mentioned, he definitely liked her. I also liked her on Friends....

That’s a wonderful story. Thanks to your brother for his service.
This year has been rough on my memories. RIP.
She also played the long-suffering wife in “Let It Ride” — a little-known gem of a comedy with Richard Dreyfuss and the hottest Jennifer Tilley (now a professional poker player)ever.
One of Teri’s better lines was, “I’ve decided to become an alcoholic.”
I love this movie.
