Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A seemingly orphaned or abandoned kitten brought to an animal shelter in Germany displayed unusually aggressive behavior that resulted in it being identified as a European wildcat.
The Bergheim Animal Shelter said the small feline was brought in by a member of the public who found it alone on a country road and became concerned by the animal's aggressive behavior and refusal to eat.
Shelter staff suspected the kitten wasn't a domestic cat at all, and contacted the Retscheider Hof wildlife center, which confirmed the animal was a European wildcat, a protected wild species native to the area.
The wildlife center said the young wildcat is being cared for alongside another member of its species until they are old enough to be returned to the wild.
"We do our best to make their stay as comfortable as possible. Every progress they make is followed here with great enthusiasm and hope," a wildlife center spokesman told The Dodo.
You knew I was a wildcat before you took me in
Tossing the obvious mistake aside, you have to admit that is one cute kitty š±.
They sure looked pretty tame against Auburn this weekend.
I might have taken it home!
Some Wildcats are tame..............
I had to work Saturday, so I missed all the SEC action................
Do you suppose the Retscheider Hof wildlife center would take our cat "Merlin"? He's almost 11 and I keep hoping that one day he might become domesticated.
Ich bin ein purr-loiner
XLNT!.........................
He looks like he has round pupils unlike the football shaped pupils found on house kitties.
Years ago we got a kitten from an old miner. He worked a claim next to a cabin he built near Pyramid lake, Nevada, in the 70s.
It was an awesome cat, probably part Bob cat. Named it He-She, because we couldnāt figure it out. It was huge and had hair spikes off its ears but didnāt have a bobbed tail.
Best cat ever, but you couldnāt play with it when it was hungry. My hands have scars to prove it.
My wife handled a lion kitten at one time. It was grown cat sized and had enormous paws.
If itās over $500, I want to try them out first and I donāt know anyone that has one. Are they made in Croatia like their XDs? I had several of those and liked them alot.
Smuggled 6 guys into a Drive-In in the trunk of a Buick Wildcat. Had room for a few more!
Housecat pupils will go round when dilated. Stress and alarm will dilate them.
