GOP focus on rare noncitizen voting may continue long after Election Day

Around the country, Republicans are seeking to rewrite voting registration laws and file lawsuits over noncitizen voting. In Wisconsin, it’s coming down to a fight over the state constitution.

MILWAUKEE — Panic took hold of Roselia Navarro when Donald Trump first campaigned for president on a promise to ramp up deportations. She had been in the United States without legal status since she was 13, and when he won, she worried he could send her to Mexico, separating her from her 3-year-old daughter.

Navarro, who is married to a U.S. citizen, secured U.S. citizenship herself last year. She is excited to vote in a presidential election for the first time — but alarmed Wisconsin’s ballot also includes a proposed state constitutional amendment that would toughen a ban on noncitizen voting. She worries if it passes she could have her right to vote taken away or be forced to go to great lengths to prove she deserves to vote.

Supporters of the measure say it wouldn’t affect citizens like Navarro, but she fears Wisconsin officials, like their counterparts in other states, could start relying on outdated government databases to remove her and other legitimate voters from the rolls.

“It’s very unfair,” said Navarro, 32, who teaches citizenship classes in Milwaukee. “We work hard to be able to vote and have our voice be heard.”

Seven other states, including the swing state of North Carolina, are taking up similar ballot measures, which are part of a broad and concerted Republican effort to stoke fears that hordes of noncitizens will illegally vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and deprive Trump of a return to the White House. Around the country, Republicans are removing people from the voter rolls, filing lawsuits, trying to rewrite voter registration laws and building a framework for legal challenges if...

Rare?

“Rare” - assumes facts not in evidence.

Not sure about the “rare”, but with margins this small, it matters.

Murder is “rare”, so should that go unpunished?

Anyway, I certainly hope each person who enabled this activity gets deported/jailed.

The only reason they are here is so their harvested/trafficked ballots can vote Democrat.

Wrong. They are being brought in to change the balance of the counted electorate during the census. They are being sent to specific areas of the country to add/take over seats to the House.
The voting by illegals is incidental to that.

RARE! Oops it’s the Washington Whipping Post. They rarely tell the truth about Americans, especially Christians, conservatives and Republicans.

The communist/neomarxist cult have always played the long game. It’s the one thing they’re good at. Destroy the melting pot culture AND destroy the government, both from within.

If the hordes crossing the border tended to vote Republican, the border would be sealed tight. Of this there is no doubt.

Patrick Marley is a well-known Democrat activist who has never written an unbiased article. For years he wrote for the Milwaukee paper, now for the Compost.
