The real danger was from the heavy metal albums!
There’s the actually funny bit. The satanic panic was so good for heavy metal. So much free publicity. It took metal from a mostly underground small label can’t get in the malls genre of music to king of the heap. It was only a few years after the panic started that hair metal became the #1 rock and roll genre, every label had at least one LA band. And that slid into grunge, and the gnu metal. And then rock and roll lost out to hip hop. As a young metal head who’d gotten into it a couple years before the LA scene exploded I would actually seek out panickers on TV (they were on the 700 Club like every other week) and take notes. I was buying the albums the were warning my mom about, once I found the underground record store. Best thing to happen to metal.
