Find out if you're accidentally sharing your location with Google, Apple apps and services blog.google, support.apple.com When mobile apps first hit the scene, many were designed to make our phones more useful. This included new tools for productivity, as well as apps for entertainment. Many of today’s apps, though, are packed with sneaky permission requests and hidden trackers.

These tactics are legal because app developers (and the companies behind them) have to give you a choice to opt in or out of these tracking permissions. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to do that … or the developers make it really challenging to figure it out.

Keep reading, and I’ll walk you through how to turn off these invasive tracking options.

My prime setting is OFF for my $26 flip phone.

No GPS, no data and not much of anything to be honest - but I can make telephone calls....

iPhone users since February 2023. All settings were made the first week we own our phones. Have avoided the upgrade to iOS 18 and all of the AI nonsense.

Having a phone track you is inconsequential compared to the many other ways businesses track you.

Not to mention the Federal Government.

Exactly—zero apps.

My cell phone cost under twenty bucks and it is a brick used to make phone calls.

I can go a whole year without making or receiving a phone call so that wouldn’t work for me. On wifi and data all the time, though.

LOL! .I can’t even get in to the Google play store. Location is always off and don’t use chrome. Plus signal block bag if I feel the need. Turning off doesn’t always work. Reminds me of ‘on star’. If they can unlock your doors, they can likely turn off your car too. 😳🤔😊👍

Anyone tracking my location is going to be wildly disappointed. I guess they could use it to figure out when I am not home, so they could rob me. Again, they will be wildly disappointed.

” but I can make telephone calls....”.

Can you make wifi calls when there is no cell service?

Kim Komando was a top-notch OS/2 user/supporter.

I still use OS/2, but now it’s called Arca Noae.

Far superior to Windows in every way.

“Exactly—zero apps.”

Just last week I used FlightAware and Life360 to track my wife flying back from California. Played an online poker app while waiting in the cellphone app.

Back in the early 1990s I knew nothing about computers but would see people walking around with OS/2 books and discs. OS/2 Warp also. I always thought OS/2 was a catchy name.

Apps, settings, there is no way to shut it off. smart phone or flip phone. The tracking is always on no matter what you do. Text, camera, mic, GPS, tower pinging, RF ID, WiFi, Internet of Things, and bluetooth even if you “think” they are all off.

It is all tracked by your carrier and it is shared with the government. Some will even give you an ORDER to uncover your selfy camera if you cover it. You have to turn it off and back on to get rid of the order and lockup.

Illegal? nope we give them permission when we agree to their extortion contracts. No agreement... No phone service... And they ALL do it as an industry standard.

Airplane mode+off+faraday bag is the only way. But as soon as you pull it out to use it you are right back on their grid again...
