JD Vance: Housing costs are biggest threat to the American dream
NewsNation ^ | 10/24/2024 | Andrew Dorn

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance called high housing costs “the biggest threat to the American dream” during a NewsNation town hall Thursday.

“So many people in my generation — they’re delaying having families, they’re delaying getting married because they can’t afford a place to raise a family,” Vance told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo.

Low inventory, elevated mortgage rates and record-high prices have turned buying a home from a dream into a nightmare in recent years.

At the same time, rising child care costs have stretched families’ finances and caused others to delay having kids altogether.

Would you look at that? A reasonable approach to return the housing construction to a more free-market enterprise...and we wouldn't have to hire thousands of gov employees to do it!

Wow, Vance hits it out of the park with this one!

Ultimately the solution is found at the local level, not at the White House. Remove restrictive zoning ordinances and let the builders build.

That was an excellent and fair interview/townhall on Newsnation.I’ve watched it twice. JD was an exceptional choice and has a promising future.

Our kids were going to build on a lot, but between interest rates, cost of materials and all the bs MA requires ie plugs for electric cars even if you don’t have, electric airflow for chimneys because I guess no one can build a flue that drafts well, no wood frame windows meet code, radon monitors, and and and

The mostly unconstitutional and criminal federal gov’t is BY FAR the biggest threat to the American dream.

Unfortunately as a US Senator, politician JD Vance has invested himself in that mostly criminal organization. Housing prices are just the tip of the iceberg.

However, Vivek is a businessmen and like Trump, not a politician, and an “outsider” who understands like few on the national scene the threat the totalitarian federal gov’t poses.

GO VIVEK!!!

It’s not “housing costs”, it’s a dollar that’s worth 75 cents.

In our depressed little town, you can still buy a fixer upper for around $40,000, but I mean a fixer upper boy howdy. We own our home, but if we had to buy one today, we would not be able to. Even rent is out of the question. Home buyers from places like California have driven the prices up at least twice as much as they were just 5 years ago. Some friends bought a house and a couple of acres for $25,000 a few years ago, then sold it after a year to a California couple for $125,000, no questions asked. Then they bought another similar property with 5 acres for $60,000, and sold it for over $200,000 a year later. A house down the street sold for $70,000, then a year later for $150,000. I thank God every day for the generosity of my husband’s aunt, who sold us our little fixer upper for $6,000, 18 years ago (30 payments, no interest!). It was originally built by my mother in law’s cousin, and has always been in the family. My older son will get it when we’re gone.

I’d argue property taxes.

We know folks who’ve lost their homes to back taxes.

Folks who can afford the home, but not the taxes.

Yeah, home prices are insane, but property taxes are confiscatory.

BTW, Sen. Vance, NYS cost shares Medicaid with counties.

The illegals are coming with a bill and guess who’ll be stuck with a huge chunk of it.

Ha! I was going to post to you shortly....

I listened to Vivek for an hour today on Charlie Kirk. Very smart, very exciting to hear what he has planned. There’s little doubt that he’ll be instrumental in getting his agenda implemented! Start at about 1:08.....

P.S. I’m sure Vance will grown toward the light and be full-blown supporter. Sometimes it takes someone to shatter the accepted norms to get things right. I’m not going to dump on Vance for not being Vivek.

Thanks for the link Judy.

I keep saying this but the Right needs to understand that the greatest threat to our free future is the federal gov’t and the ONLY guy on the national stage to say the same is Vivek, not Vance.

After Trump wins in 2024, 2028 will be the next great battleground for America’s future. Vivek MUST be the frontrunner and victor for the presidency in 2028 to TAKE DOWN the federal gov’t and restore our Free Constitutional Republic.

I pray God let it be. Amen.

I think we’re going to see Vivek in the position to make these things happen. I don’t see how he has to be VP to do that - I suspect that is exactly the job that Trump will be putting Vivek in charge of.....it could already be done by 2028, or a good part of it.

Things are sure heating up.....I am almost frightened to see what this upcoming week will bring.

Vivek needs to President in 2028 for America to recover her Free Constitutional Republic. The best path to that is as Trump’s VP. Otherwise, we’ll need the hand of the Divine Providence of God Almighty.

God help us.
