Day #40 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the last couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so we are getting down to the last few weeks here.
And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making contributions for both the 3rd and 4th quarter fundraisers. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)
Have fun with this, folks!

Actually it was during the Goats Head Soup sessions, not Exile On Main Street.

Another group that I saw live with an interesting story. I was driving home from college and heard on the radio that the Rolling Stones could possibly be booked to play the Lakeland (FL) Civic Center, tickets were on sale that day, but not sure it is really them because the tickets have another name.
I swung by the Lakeland Civic Center Ticket Office and they said they did not know either. The tickets said "The Great Southeast Stoned Out Wrestling Champions". I bought tickets anyway and it did turn out to be them. It was the first date for their "Some Girls" tour in 1978 and they intentionally only authorized about 1/3 capacity total tickets sold. No one knew for sure if it would be them until they came out on stage. It was so uncrowded you could go to the concession stand and then just walk right up to the stage.
This was before "Waiting for a Friend" was recorded.
The setlist:

I think the tickets back then were about $10 or so.

"Waiting On A Friend" has turned out to be among my favorite Rolling Stones songs. Like you, I appreciate it more as I age. Some other RS songs that have aged well for me are "Winter" and "Sweet Virginia". I also had a Stones song that just missed my Top 50, that would be "Rocks Off" that was at number #63.
Good trivia about the video for this song being filmed at the same buildings featured on the album cover of "Physical Graffitti" by Led Zeppelin. I remember seeing the video but never made the connection. Next time I'm in that part of NYC, I will seek out that location.
Now my #12 song has a Christmas feel to it. It is the much overlooked "Miss Sarejevo" by U2 and opera singer Pavarotti from the 1995 Passengers album, which was an experimental album produced by Eno of "imaginary soundtracks". Not a true U2 album but just a side project by them.
Anyway, I know that there are a lot of U2 haters here but I urge them to give this a listen. When Pavarotti comes in towards the end of this song, it transports you to another world entirely. It is a really good song to play around Christmas time as for me, it evokes a very Christmasy atmosphere.
U2 w/Pavarotti - Miss Sarajevo (1995)

First Zeppelin concert I went to was the Physical Graffiti tour at MSG. To date, the best concert I ever attended. In second place is Pink Floyd’s Animals tour. They did the entire Animals album, took a short break, then did the entire Wish you were here album, and for their encore did the first side of Dark Side of the Moon.
Doesn’t get much better than that.
