Director Tim Burton has revealed that being on the internet makes him feel "quite depressed".
Ahead of the opening of a major career retrospective in London, he told BBC News: "Anybody who knows me knows I'm a bit of a technophobe.
"If I look at the internet, I found that I got quite depressed," the 66-year-old said. "It scared me because I started to go down a dark hole. So I try to avoid it, because it doesn't make me feel good."
The World of Tim Burton at the Design Museum features 600 items which organisers say give "a rare private glimpse into his creative process" and goes on display in the UK for the first time on Friday.
Burton is best-known for directing films such as Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland, as well as Beetlejuice and its recent sequel.
Reflecting on his use of the internet, Burton said: "I get depressed very quickly, maybe more quickly than other people. But it doesn't take me much to start to click and start to short circuit."
The film-maker said keeping busy and doing simple things such as looking at clouds helps him feel better. As does his collection of ten giant dinosaur models that he keeps in his backyard including a 20ft T-Rex.
Burton pulls out his mobile phone and proudly shows us a picture of a 50-foot Brontosaurus. He buys the ones you find at amusement parks, adding that actor Nicolas Cage has "real ones".

I have two words for this sick Twist.
“Corpse Bride”
Insofar as he is one of the main architects of Hollywood’s decline from a dream factory into a purveyor of (in his case literal) nightmares — he deserves endless misery in this life, and judgment in the next.
Interesting. His films are usually a bit out there for me but he certainly has a very creative mind. Edward Scissorhands was pretty brilliant, though…especially with Danny Elfman’s musical work.
I think he’s brilliant and have enjoyed every movie he has produced. He is the Edward Gorey/Chas. Addams of film.
He has a point though. Not much positive on the net anymore. And soon they will make sure the “human” element is completely gone and it is nothing but storefronts and commercial space. They are killing it right in front of our eyes.
If might be depressing if the little soldier doesn’t stand at attention anymore.
I can say I have never, by choice, seen any of his movies. However, any guy that can land Monica Bellucci has my admiration.
Oh man she is one of my dream girls, like Sophia Loren...
how? because even Monica, sometimes has a headache! that picture is clearly on a ‘non headache’ week...
“Big Fish” 🐟🐠🐡 was pretty good too, and so was “Mars Attacks” 🛸.
Spot on.
What *doesn’t* make Tim Burton depressed?
Buy some lighting and maybe???
Tim Burton doesn’t like the real world, much less a bigger window into both the larger world and fiction he disagrees with.
Corpse Bride isn’t a nightmare. It’s a romantic comedy. That just happens to have dead characters. It’s kind of slow, but nightmarishly slow.
I disagree. There's not much on TV and from Hollywood. The internet is much more easily what one makes of it.
I'm think it's that, that Tim doesn't like.
He needs to watch more cat videos.
You have a point there.
If I was dating that lady I would be quite happy.
