This is odd. When I try to copy urls to repost the url disappears. Instead I am provided with a statement that SAYS SEARCH OR TYPE URL. This is occurring on X, YOUTUBE, FB and other media. This is new. Not with FR.

I often cut and paste across platforms. But not now. Just started yesterday.

What am I doing wrong

Choose a text editor for your computing device.

Windows OS: editpad lite / editpad pro
Mac OS: BBEdit

Keep a plain text file open - using the text editor of choice.

When you copy text, paste it to that text file window. So you can see/verify what you copied (versus the “keeping your fingers crossed” method).

When you click in a field of a webpage online, and you see the cursor blinking in that field -— meaning that you know that you selected that field -— then copy the URL address from your text file window . . . and click again on that field that you selected . . . and paste to that field.

So, you are copying the clean text, the character string, instead of other “meta” “formatting” hidden data, etc. that the website may not want pasted.

ADDITIONAL TROUBLE WITH CHROMIUM

There is a bug in Chromium that scrambles bookmarks.

Important: Maintain backups of Chromium-engined browser bookmarks - EXPORT to "bookmarks.html" file.

Bookmarks unusable since last update, blending together, changing when clicking on them, etc

FYI

X is under hacking attack. I suspect it is in part because the Hard Left is angry with Elon Musk getting totally behind President Trump.

X has been very stable until recently. And they seem to fix problems pretty quick.

Might be the browser you’re using...there’s a LOT of hits when one searches for “Brave Browser Issues”

I have seen that before. Some websites will disable your mouse buttons when trying to copy text..................

Let’s cut to the chase. You failed to cite your browser up front, but scrolling revealed that it’s Brave.

So, “IT-101”: Start here (below), DOWNLOAD/reinstall Brave and get back to those following the thread who failed to suggest the proper first step

https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404876135565-How-do-I-uninstall-Brave

I bet it’s then resolved...unless your browsing habits exposed you to harmful code, and that’s a whole other discussion.

I know yahoo search will do that- you highlight the link, then go to copy it, and it dissappears. What I found was that if I highlight it, then press ctrl plus c, it will copy it

If you use control-a then control-c to copy, this will possibly apply.
If you are selecting text and then right clicking your mouse on the text and choosing copy, this will NOT be the problem.
This does happen, though:

You could have a key on your keyboard that I stuck, maybe intermittently.

Check the right and left control keys for sticking. Clean them it they have something on then. They can also have a weak spring etc. Not everything is a problem in the operating system or browser. I have over the years had this come up enough and went looking at the operating system for the fix, when it was a sticky key. Now I know to also check the keyboard.

A bad right mouse button can also cause issues. Also can be intermittent.

(Of course I might drool on my left control key more than you!)

On Brave browser if you right click LINKS to copy, be sure to choose “copy clean link” instead of only “copy” in case there is something weird on link formatting. The should not be the case on FR links as they are already clean and simple.

If you are clicking in the browser where you TYPE or paste URLs, that could be the keyboard issue. It may be wiping out the text when you try to control-c.

I know this may not be the answer but just in case, hope you get it working.

W
