There Is a Very Wrong Lesson to Take From Kamala Harris’ Performance Among Black and Latino Voters
Slate ^ | 10/19/24 | Ben Mathis-Lilley

Posted on 10/22/2024 1:36:52 PM PDT by DallasBiff

Why is Kamala Harris doing worse with Black and Latino voters than previous Democratic presidential candidates? That’s the campaign topic of the week after a New York Times/Siena poll found Harris winning only 57 percent of Hispanic voters—a step down from the estimated 63 percent that Joe Biden won in 2020—and 78 percent of Black voters, 15 points less than Biden’s estimated 2020 share. In the New York Times, David Leonhardt suggested an explanation for the disparity that echoes a centrist critique we’ve heard a lot over the past few years: The problem is identity politics, particularly on the issue of immigration.

According to Leonhardt, the Democratic Party is suffering because it has made “the wrong diagnosis of the American electorate” when it comes to race and ethnicity. Democrats, he says, assume that people of color constitute a homogeneous voting bloc whose loyalty can be best earned through acts that speak to their “racial identity,” like the 2022 appointment of a Black woman, Ketanji Brown Jackson, to the Supreme Court. (That’s Leonhardt’s example, not mine.)

I always voted, even though I lived in a very red state. Now that I live in the free state of Florida, I will be very happy to vote for a winner. … Hopefully

He cites fantasy land talking points.

They've won a lot of elections using fantasy - they are just slow to realize it isn't working as well without an Obama at the top of the ticket.

I’m active in the Maryland Repub Party and alot of people are split, as am I.

Work in the DC burbs.

2 of the offices I work it mainly takes care of Black patients.

First it as 30-40 y.o. men saying they were voting for Trump.

Next Black mom’s p.o.ed at the school systems liberal teaching.

Now it’s Black Grandma’s upset with the lack of morality in our government and our media!

No way is Commiela getting 78% of the Black vote!!!!!!

One of the new employees is a 19 y.o Hispanic. She said everyone she knows is supporting Trump.

Pray to God we can stop the cheat!

Even if just a typo, I’m using that one!

Gland Canyon is a really good play on words but all of the interpretations I can come up with are not appropriate for discussion.

Nope. Vote against Hogan.

Independents are ascendant. There is zero benefit of GOP for GOP’s sake. Hogan will be nothing but a perpetual obstacle.

The Dem alternative will be insignificant.

like the 2022 appointment of a Black woman, Ketanji Brown Jackson, to the Supreme Court

Irresponsible reporting. She testified (she) could not define what a woman was, therefore, it is not proven that (she) is actually a (woman).

And late voting runs the risk of falling to a “problem” with the ballots late on Election Day.

Pick your poison.

My family of 4 voted today. We are in a swing state.

This was the second day of early voting, and the lines were very long.

This isn’t related to article, but Jesse Waters just showed Kamala saying, ‘A democracy, as long as we can keep it...’. Good Lord! Plus, she just said she liked or had been eating gummies. Only gummies I hear about nowadays are THC gummies.
