Sickening! I’ve past it countless times at the pier. I really thought someone would repurpose it and not sink it! The ship is absolutely magnificent in its engineering and legacy. Now it’s going to be a diver museum and fish hotel.

At least we will know where it’s at, unlike teh SS Constitution:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Constitution
“SS Constitution was retired in 1995; while under tow to be scrapped, the liner sank 700 nautical miles (1,300 km) north of the Hawaiian Islands on November 17, 1997. The exact location of the wreck has yet to be discovered.”

It IS being repurposed - it's creating habitat for sea life. From the article:
'Because the reefs provide a source of biological replenishment to local populations of marine vertebrates and invertebrates, they essentially act as fish magnets, pulling in species that range from grouper and red snapper to bigger game fish, such as tuna.'
That's a 'legacy' for a derelict ship.

Also amazing is that it’s cheaper to make iron from ore than to re-use the ship’s iron.

SURPRISED THEY DIDN’T RE-PURPOSE IT FOR INVADER HOUSING

It’s been disintegrating for decades. Using it for something else would require a great deal of time and money.
