Californians already paying the highest gas prices in the country could have another tax hike headed their way, if proposed changes to the state’s low carbon fuel standard are adopted.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) — which consists of board members appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Democrat-controlled legislature — is scheduled to vote just days after the election on a new proposal that would lower carbon emissions faster, but increase the cost of petroleum refineries.
CARB has the authority to impose regulations without legislative oversight.
Twenty-five Republicans are sounding the alarm and urging the board to delay the vote after an independent finding showed it could increase the cost at the pump per gallon by 47 cents.
“It’s a big, big deal, and so people deserve to know and have full transparency by these boards, what it is that they’re doing and the impact that it will have on their daily life,” state Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, R-Yucaipa, told Fox News Digital in an interview.
“So, we talk about the cost of living in California. We talk about the top concerns in California is the cost of living, and when it comes to the impact of fuels, this would be a direct ripple effect on increasing the cost of living in California. People need a break.”
In a letter to CARB chair Liane Randolph, Ochoa Bogh and Assemblymember Greg Wallis noted that Californians currently pay $1.50 more per gallon than the national average, and CARB’s proposed changes could add 65 to 85 cents next year, potentially reaching $1.50 by 2035.

Last week gas at my station was about $2.49.. Today it was $2.75
California can bring the price of gasoline up to $10/gallon and get away with it, as they have very little ‘leakage’ from across their borders (and if they suspect significant leakage, that would be easy to deal with). As far as the political price - as long as the Left doesn’t organize against it, then there is no political price, as Republicans there exist only in name.
It’s California so I don’t care.
I was stationed there back in the 80s in Moffet Field out side of Mountain View and it was quite nice and San Francisco was beautiful.... fast forward to today and the liberal progressive cancer has destroyed it like everything it touches.
If Trump wins the election, I think hiking gas prices will be a minor thing compared to what Liberals at all levels of Government will do.
Massive Pardons, escalation of war around the world, arresting Trump, every crazy idea has to be on the table because the liberals are capable of anything and everything.
Trump’s gonna sick the military on us. What’s the difference? What would be more likely?
What?

Well, the Georgia State Gasoline Tax suspension
(because of the hurricane) expired this week.
Gavin Newsom has said oil companies are price gouging.
There are reasons why California gas tends to be around dollar more than the national average per gallon.
I saw a breakdown once of the reasoning. I don’t have it in front of me right now. But as I recall , among those were, California state gas tax is 68 cents per gallon. That’s about forty cents higher than the national average among the states.
Then California charges sales tax on gasoline. It’s at a lower rate than the regular retail sales tax rate, but even so, that adds about a dime per gallon.
Also, California levies an extra tax, which is supposed to help fight climate change. That tax is about 25 cents a gallon.
California requires special blends of gasoline, winter and summer blends, which are supposed to produce less air pollution. These additional costs can add ten or twenty cents of per gallon to the cost of gasoline.
Add it all up, and there are reasons why California gasoline is a good bit more expensive than other states.
But Gavin Newsom has said oil companies are price gouging.
San Francisco was my favorite place to visit before the insane leftist policies destroyed it. It was expensive but worth the price.
If the Libs lose NOTHING will be off the table, chaos will be the name of the game. Stay frosty.
My last visit to San Francisco was sans car. We just used public transportation.
After reading how quickly cars are vandalized, I realized I just didn’t want to deal with it.
That was also the last time we expect to ever visit. The downtown subway terminal had hundreds of homeless camping out in it. They weren’t threatening during the day, but they used a blocked off elevator as a public toilet, leaving a sign on it as “Out of Service.”
But the bathroom stench was just emanating from it.
That was before COVID. I’m sure it has only gotten worse.
Liberals tear down and poop on everything. At least with birds, they just poop on everything.
Liberal are literally worse for society than animals.
Call it what is - California is charging a $0.25 per gallon indulgence for the Church of Climate Change. That’s exactly what “carbon offsets” are - indulgences.
Yes, we’re oh so sophisticated in this modern age.
🙄
It DOES.
"Blue state regulators could hike price at pump just days after election, GOP lawmakers warn (CARB)"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Given that California CARB is run by non-popularly elected bureaucrats, it is unconstitutional under both state and federal constitutions imo, no mention of legislative power for CARB in Article IV, Section 1 of California's constitution.
"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
"Article IV, California Constitution
Section 1
The legislative power of this State is vested in the California Legislature which consists of the Senate and Assembly, the people reserving to themselves the powers of initiative and referendum."
Since Congress and renegade states have repeatedly proven that they are enemies of the people imo, it is now up to Democratic and Republican Trump supporters to effectively "impeach and remove" ALL (exceptions?) state and federal lawmakers and executives in November.
In fact, it's up to us Trump supporters to take the first MAJOR step in draining the swamp by supporting hopeful Trump 47 with a new, Constitution-respecting Congress, new state lawmakers too, not only so that he will not be a lame duck president from the first day of his second term, but will support him to quickly finish draining the swamp.
Finally, let's not allow the anti-Trump media try to fade our memories of what we witnessed on July 13.

It’s going up here in NH, too.
Of course prices are going to skyrocket after the election, especially if harris *wins*.
There will be nothing to stop the left from finishing the destruction of the USA.
I filled up yesterday for $2.55 a gallon. I live in the “Free Republic of Texas”. The average cost per gallon in California is $4.68.
It is already on the books and scheduled to go up 45 cents on Jan 1 in California, but with the marxist moves of Newsome and the legislature it will more than likely be a $2 gallon raise in prices.
A good example of why the government should not be regulating prices.
I moved to Sunnyvale in the late ‘80s.
Yes it was really nice.
Now....I am really glad I left in 2003
