Megan Marshack, an aide to Nelson Rockefeller who was with the former New York governor and vice president when he died under circumstances that spurred intense speculation, has died in California at age 70. Marshack died on Oct. 2 of liver and kidney failure, according to a self-penned obituary posted by a funeral home in Sacramento, California. Her brother said she died at a live-in medical facility in Sacramento.
Marshack, who had a long and varied career in journalism, suddenly gained national attention after the four-time Republican governor collapsed and died of a heart attack on the night of Jan. 26, 1979. Shifting explanations regarding the details of that night fanned conjecture about the death of the 70-year-old member of the wealthy Rockefeller family and the nature of his relationship with his 25-year-old researcher.
It was originally announced that Rockefeller died in his offices at Rockefeller Center. But a family spokesperson later said Rockefeller had been working on an art book at his private offices elsewhere in Manhattan when he was stricken. There also were discrepancies with his time of death and who was with him. Marshack was not initially identified as being with him when he died.

How sad is it to write your own obituary?
The shocker to me in this story was his age. I thought he was old when he died in the saddle. 70 isn’t old.
Nelson Rockefeller’s wife was Happy when he died.
Rocky died in the saddle. She was the saddle.
Actually it is....
Apparently it would seem something was going on between her an Rockefeller.
In her obituary she wrote for herself she said, “won’t forget, can’t regret what I did for love.” That really explains it all. She kept it all class and silent and left enough ambiguity in her self written obituary that one could not say what the obituary alluded to. I suspect she was a very intelligent young woman but one with class.
To quote Henry Kissinger, “The ultimate aphrodisiac is power.” Henry Kissinger dated some incredible beautiful and young women as he was single.
Yes. She was “with him”. 😉
I see what you did there....
Only sad that an obituary was necessary. Every death of a good person infuriates me at the loss the world suffers. It’s good to, at least, have a say in how you will be remembered.
Tombstones, too, need smaller type and deeper etching.
This is important how ?
I remember when 70 was old. Now it’s the merest youth.
Good for him that it was fast. Horrible for her in the embarrassment and publicity. Horrible for his family for the scandal. Usually, you hope that someone you care about dies in their sleep. This isn’t a bad alternative.
Only because many of us remember when it happened and one is always curious about back stories.
Not too old, anyways.
The old saying is, If you want something done right do it yourself. It’s a very good obituary, read it. https://www.gormleyandsons.com/obituaries/megan-marshack

What’s the matter with you? Wouldn’t you like to go out the same way?
My idea-A suicide drug that would only work when gettin’ off. The amount she gets in his will would depend on her decibel level when she screams.
