An Australian police sergeant likely to be charged over a Nazi salute

An Australian state police chief apologized to the Jewish community on Saturday after a sergeant allegedly performed an outlawed Nazi salute.

The 65-year-old instructor on domestic violence policy and law at the Victoria state police academy in Melbourne is facing charges for the gesture and for praising Nazi leader Adolf Hitler with the words, “Heil Hitler” on Tuesday and Wednesday in front of academy staff and recruits, Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said.

“I want to express just here at the outset my disappointment, my disgust, my anger at this appalling conduct,” Patton told a press conference. “There is simply no place for this type of conduct in our society, let alone in this police force. For that reason, I want to profoundly apologize to the Jewish community but also to the community as whole,” Patton added.

The poor sod confused Australia with Austria.

I hate it when that happens...

While that act is disgusting, how sad that Australia has reached that low of a level to outlaw speech it finds offensive. Coming soon to America.

You know, when I see stories like this, I am predisposed to listen with a more favorable ear for woke stupidity in a story than I used to be, in the event it was someone making a stupid joke that involved a punch line with a “Sieg Heil”.

This sure doesn’t sound like that. And everyone knows that old joke:

Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks are French, the mechanics German, the lovers Italian and it’s all organised by the Swiss.

Hell is where the chefs are British, the mechanics French, the lover’s Swiss, the police German and it’s all organised by the Italians.

I sure don’t want people like that anywhere near government at any level anywhere.

Exactly.

Poor taste for sure.

Context will likely show there was more to it, meant to be cynical, funny, whatever...

But... we live in an age where everyone is looking for the OPPORTUNITY to pretend to have been offended.

We’re a society of bed-wetters.

What if someone shouts out, “Who wants a beer” and you raise your hand? Is the “I’ll take one mate!” beer salute “outlawed” down under?

While perhaps this fellow deserves censure - or perhaps not - this is the slippery slope we hear about. And quite a steep one.

All Trump voters should understand this.

I believe I differ with you on this. I don’t see this as a slippery slope, even a slippery slope in Australia.

In this country, private citizens could ostensibly be free (in practice it may be different now) to plug Hitler and give a “Sieg Heil” salute.

I detest the stupidity of people who might profess to be devotees of Nazism, but as an American, I am forced to accept it for two main reasons:

First, I understand fully the danger of allowing a government to control what can and cannot be said. We cannot trust our fellow man with that degree of power, because it has been, and will be absolutely abused.

Secondly, the people in the Democrat Party in this country have become open Communists. They don’t even hide it anymore, publicly professing their admiration for the Communist Chinese government because it isn’t hobbled by any kind of pesky First or Second Amendments. That right there should tell you just how vital it is not to let them control speech or thought.

But all this is different when the person is serving in an official public function, in this case, as an LEO. I no more want Nazis lording over me than the Communists. So I draw the line there. An American can be a private citizen and say what they please, but not a public employee.

Yes, it’s slippery.

Be it homebody individuals or private or public employees, everyone has the right to speech. If it’s in poor taste, there may be consequences personally or from an employer. But no sanctions of consequence should be tolerated from government for expressing your non-threatening thoughts. Speaking about Hitler, even favorably, in a general sense is not threatening.

In many quarters, MAGA is already as taboo as Hitler. I read vile things, and not just from private individuals but from gov’t personnel and agencies - apart from the political arena - about conservatives, Republicans, those who favor abortion and scoff at climate change, etc. - going so far as saying offenders should be fined or even incarcerated.

Some J6ers were simply in the area - having done nothing but be in the area or detailed plans online to attend - and they faced the DOJ’s hell of persecution.

The threshold for triggering is now almost at a non-existent level. Surely you read the threats in print, online or on TV toward conservatives - they didn’t specify voters - if Trump is elected.

Trump is Hitler, MAGA is Nazism...all a slippery slope.
