Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday he has told former President Donald Trump that Kyiv will pursue nuclear weapons for defense if it doesn’t gain entry to NATO.
“In a conversation with Donald Trump, I told him it comes to this,” Zelensky said in Ukrainian while speaking to the European Council in Brussels.
“The outcome is either Ukraine will be a nuclear power — and that will be our protection — or we should have some kind of alliance. Other than NATO, today we don’t know of any effective alliances.”
Zelensky, 46, emphasized that Ukraine is choosing to pursue membership in the 32-nation Atlantic alliance as its priority.
“I believe that he heard me,” the Ukrainian leader said of Trump, 78.
“He said it was a fair argument.”
Zelensky noted that Ukraine had given up its nuclear arsenal voluntarily with the signing of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum in exchange for security guarantees from Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
“Who suffered out of these countries? Everyone? No. Only Ukraine,” he said in frustration. “Who gave up nuclear weapons? Everyone? No. Only one. Who? Ukraine.”
Prior to the Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine had the world’s third-largest nuclear stockpile on its soil following the breakup of the Soviet Union. It is one of four countries — along with Belarus, Kazakhstan and South Africa — to have voluntarily embraced nuclear disarmament.

The world knows President Trump is on his way to reelection and both Ukraine and Russia are jockeying for negotiating position.
Russia has nuclear weapons and is naturally placed to be Ukraine’s ally. Culture and history give Russia a better claim to Ukraine than the United States has to Hawaii — or even Texas.
It’s time to blow up NATO HQ in Brussels. NATO and the UN are useless.

As far as Uke nukes, Ukraine had nukes and agreed to give them up in return for Russia, US and UK protecting Ukraine.
Putin is quite an evil bastard who needs to go the way of his Hamas and Hezbollah and Iranian comrades. .

Me too. I began (and largely continue) by just wishing for all the killing, maiming and destruction to END. But after years of ZEEPER onslaughts I’ve arrived at a desire to see Zelensky hunted down and “SINWAR’ED”. The sooner the better.
If Zelensky wants to assure Ukraine no longer exists, this would be the way to do it.
There is zero chance Trump will approve of Ukraine acquiring nuclear weapons.
Sinwar was an ally of Putin. So were all the other now deaded Iranian, Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi terrorists.
I have no love for Putin, either, but Putin isn’t trying to get the US to go to war or to use nuclear weapons to substitute for what should have been negotiations, long ago.
That is all clearly on Ukraine and Zelensky.
It's NATO's aggression and our meddling in Ukraine that provoked this war.

1. If Ukraine joins NATO, that must mean NATO is obligated to defend Ukraine, and WW3 starts.
2. If Ukraine develops a nuclear weapon, that means they nuke Russia and Russia turns most of Ukraine into a molten glass lake, but all becomes quiet and the war is over.
I don’t like either choice, but I prefer 2 over 1.
Ukraine having a nuclear deterrent is better for the US than NATO membership.
Not with American money.

Putin promises to defend Ukraine but decades later attacks Ukraine.
Ukraine defense in the south falling apart now, retreating in disarray. Russia taking ground fast, 120 square kilometers yesterday. Ukraine supply lines being cut, they have to retreat.
Meanwhile Kursk is a disaster for Ukraine too. Plenty of updates around the net. Willy OMAN, Ukraine supporter, says the “victory plan” is a joke.
