Aldama Garcia said he last saw the dog in standing water and left it behind.
Meanwhile, the dog — renamed Trooper in honor of the Florida Highway Patrol officer who rescued him — was safely living with a foster family in the Tallahassee area, according to the county’s Humane Society office.
Investigators said Aldama Garcia saw photos of the abandoned dog on social media and initially wanted it back, then changed his mind after learning the dog was with a foster family in Leon County.
“After finding out the dog was being fostered, he surrendered the dog due to someone else giving the dog a better life,” the arrest report said.
The highway patrol said Aldama Garcia’s actions put the dog’s safety unnecessarily at risk. It described him as showing no emotion after learning the dog was still alive."

The guy made a mistake, cheezuz. He was thinking with a normalcy bias, “he was going away and would be back in a bit”. Was likely his thoughts. He didn’t want him to run away. It is either that or let him run free?

No I did not. It is cruel, I love dogs but it is not a reason to get police involved. There is so much damage, how about fixate on housing, food and water for humans? People have pet guinea pigs, snakes and rats. I bet there were rats and guinea pigs left in cages too.
People hate him more than Obama, or lawyers. It is less hateful than mutilating children, yet nobody seems to GAS about Hollywood actors having children dressed as opposite sex, and putting them through surgery.
It’s possible to GAS about more than one thing at once. And I’m sure everyone on this forum GsAS about all the things and people you mention.
