Well, at least they didn’t take their chances in a home-made submarine.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion, or satire, or both.)
I have been to Cripple Creek. It is a really cool little town with old buildings turned into casinos. Alot of mining history. I took the train tour and visited the Mine. This is not a rinky dink attraction but a real mine. I am so sorry for the loss of life and pray for those remaining.

World Famous??? It will be now...
As far as tourist attraction death go, 12 is a pretty large number... Hopefully it will remain at 1 death, but I’m pretty sure none of the 11 tourist trapped in this mine have a clue about surviving a mine cave in.

I visited Cripple Creek a few times when I lived in Colorado. The last time I was there was in 1981. I’m sure that it’s changed a lot, the casinos weren’t there. It was a fun place to go for a weekend.

That is a rock/ore bucket and it is a display. It has nothing to do with what’s happened.

Truth in advertising? It says you can descend 1000 feet underground. They don’t say you can come back up.

why haven’t we replace all the miners with mining bots yet?
if they can replace workers with ai/robot, we should start with the most dangerous jobs

The person who died could have been due to a heart attack. Or it could have been the vaccine.

Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last, 'cept John

What a shame. It was an awesome mine tour. I have taken a number of out of town friends on that mine elevator. I can’t remember how many people could fit in it but they packed you in like sardines and I think the elevator had two levels, if I remember correctly. It was the same one that they used to take miners down back in the day. The tour was very authentic.

I also recall that the elevator had some kind of emergency braking system if the cable broke or the winch failed. I wonder if it went into a freefall and then the brakes stopped it abruptly and violently. At 500 feet, there is still a lot of air between the passengers and something solid to land on below.
